So our experience at Poke Chop was mostly good but there were a few things that I'd like to mention. When we arrived there was a line (no big deal) we realized at that stage that we didn't have masks and they are requiring them for entry. One of the staff members told us (and another couple not wearing masks) that he would come outside to take our orders, which we thought was awesome! But.. he then told the 10 or so people behind us, they could go ahead and go inside ahead of us. They finally came out to take our order after all of those people were helped... he was very nice despite allowing everyone to line jump us. My husband and I both ordered a large bowl which comes with 5 scoops of protein. When we got our food, we decided to take it to go since seating is limited. When we got home and opened our bowls, both of us were not only missing some of our proteins but also some of our toppings. We felt a bit shorted since the large bowl is almost $20... but I'm still giving them 4 stars because the taste and freshness was on point And we appreciated them taking our order outside. They lose a star for the lack of attention to detail and not taking the customers in the order...
Read moreIve been coming here for 5+ years and slowly the sevice has gone down. The quality of the food has also, but the price was right and so I stayed loyal. Place is small, no bathroom for paying customers. So there isn't much to it.
Recently, I had a baby and he loves to have what momma is eating. Usually, I order with my son, he is 1.5 years old and does not like spicy food, but i do and hes not big enough for his own bowl. They used to put my spicy tuna on the side. I always order a large bowl and pay for an extra container for my spicy protien. Well one of the last times i went, the person behind the bar, really skimped out on the protien on the side and my very last visit the same person, told me they were not allowed to put my protien ots even though I pay for the protien and the container. This "old policy" seems quite strange and had never been an issue before. I was not willing to argue but downgraded to a medium, not getting my spicy protien at all..(they lost money)
Last time I will be going there. This used to be the only poke spot I went to and now I won't be giving...
Read moreVery well located in the heart of Pacific Beach. The comparison has to be with other poke places, so put in perspective it ranks about average. Food is acceptable but the salad in both portions was a bit "sad" and some of the greens had brown around the edges. The biggest downside is the abundance of flies inside the restaurant and food trays are in no way protected from them. Seeing flies on your food even before it's dished out is a bit off-putting to say the least. Another thing we didn't much enjoy was the music (or the lack of it). Radio was set on mostly static and volume was on max which created a very unpleasant noise. We had to ask the staff several times to either turn it off or tune it correctly and when they failed to do that we just took our food to go. That wasn't straightforward either because we had to wait for plastic lids for a few minutes. I can't recommend this place and if you want to try a really good poke restaurant, do yourself a favor and go to...
