I see that a lot of people like this place. To each their own, I suppose.

The ordering system is not efficient and very inconvenient. They expect you to look at a posted menu and remember what you want when you get to the counter. For a guy like me, it's difficult to remember the 5 rolls I want. Especially when there's a line out the door behind you. Which leads me to the next issue, in that there are no descriptions of the rolls anywhere. So what's in a chefs roll? Or the Baja roll? So they told me to take a sushi check list to the table with me and my server would come get it. They never picked it up so we took it up front ourselves. Well as I'm still making my selections, my girlfriend's chicken teriyaki arrived at the table. Needless to say that my girlfriend had to sit there and wait for me to finish eating. One of the worst things a restaurant can do is not time their food correctly (I'm a chef, I know). I eat a lot of sushi and as much as I hate to say it, it will not be here.

The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because the cooks did good work. But they can't carry the restaurant with a terrible...

Disorganized and Stressful Pickup

I recently had a pickup experience at this restaurant while working for DoorDash that left me quite frustrated. Unlike other restaurants, they had an unusual process where they wanted me to confirm the order without letting me check the contents of the bag first.

As a delivery driver, it's essential to ensure that I have the right items for the correct customer. This restaurant didn't provide me with that opportunity, and it was quite stressful. The lack of a customer name label on the bag further complicated things. Many other restaurants use labels to prevent order mix-ups, but this one didn't.

I believe that for a smoother and more efficient pickup process, the restaurant should adopt industry-standard practices. Providing drivers the chance to verify the order contents and adding customer names to bags would greatly improve the experience for both delivery drivers and customers.

I hope they consider these suggestions to enhance their service for all delivery drivers...

How this place stays open and maintains a 4.4 on Maps shocks me. This has to be one of the worst places in PB area.

I ordered the baked salmon bento with chicken teriyaki while my friend ordered salmon with sashimi. The salmon was bland, seasoned with literally only salt, no pepper, no sauce, nothing at all. It looked so pale as if it just received a failed surgery. The tuna sashimi was fishy and unfresh, perhaps straight out of the freezer. The chicken teriyaki was salty and tough, seemingly have been reheated several times. The shrimp tempura was coated like a breadstick, the batter is thicker than the shrimp itself, and why did you serve it with tartar sauce? This is supposed to be Japanese cuisine, not British Fish N Chips!

Avoid this place at all costs, there are so many good choices around. Would never recommend,...

I’ve been going to ichiban for close to 20 years. It’s improved over time, their service has always been 5 stars, the food tastes like magic, to me at least! It’s always fresh, very tasty, and the atmosphere is unique as a lot of people share this as their go to neighbourhood spot for decades as well. If you love cozy, delicious hot food, friendly service, and sharing nice experiences with others in a chill environment- highly recommend. Ichiban has great chicken teriyaki, their sushi rolls are scrumptious, and while their calamari is strips not rings it’s my absolute personal favorite. It’s also very reasonably priced. Highly recommend for casual anything, cozy date night, family meals, after sporting events, and anything in between. Thank you ichiban for being amazing! Do yourself a favor and check them out today 🩵

Rip off, Total bait and switch. The online menu on Google maps is a huge lie. Order it on Postmates because the same order was $10 cheaper on Postmates and they deliver it. If you really want to make yourself happy you might as well just go somewhere else because this place is a rip off! How is the bento box on Postmates only $10.25 but if you go to the restaurant it's $14.50? Rip off. Soft shell crab roll on postmates is $6.25, but walk into the store and it's $8.95 The same occurred on EVERY item in my order. (See both pics for confirmation) Ichiban PB is the Worst sushi restaurant in San Diego. Ichiban PB is by far the worst sushi restaurant in Pacific Beach.
