(5-Star #PreReview). Read all comments as will visit soon, see how it all works out and give update to my review. Update: (2-Star #Review) ⭐️⭐️ Clean Facilities but found one of the *staff members to be more disturbing than any homeless person who may have been there.
There are two great security staff who we’ve met that are very kind and alert and Rob at the front desk is helpful and courteous.
Had a negative experience with a library staff member yesterday and had to remove three stars from the original five-star rating due to her reprehensible behavior.
Rather than responding to her immediately in that moment, I chose to take my child to another part of the library to avoid a confrontation with the staff member who chose to *scream across the room at my child who is only two years old.
She did this from behind her mask yesterday as my child ran away from another child who wanted the same toy. Apparently she was worried the toy would be ruined while being held incorrectly?
Not only was my child startled and visibly shaken but also confused as he does not know this person and is not accustomed to being screamed at by any adult while he’s playing— let alone someone whose face is completely covered by a mask, glasses and hair.
This happened in the Children’s Section of the library and this staff member blew a gasket over a replaceable / public toy.
To be overwhelmed or having a bad day is one thing but to take it out on a toddler who is still *learning and who is highly impressionable is completely unacceptable.
PBL - 🙏🏽 Please keep staff members who do not have the *experience or *patience to deal with children out of the Children’s Section. We have never experienced this at Linda Vista Library, Mission Valley or any others.
That said, PBL offers great childrens’ books, Legos, DVDs, and other educational toys as well as child-size / adult-size tables and chairs— where several parents were working from our laptops while our children played nearby.
My child is the only reason I choose to work from the library— amenities mean nothing if the children are not being treated appropriately and with respect by staff.
There were a few “seemingly homeless” men who were without children that settled in the children’s area but for the most part stayed to themselves.
I spoke with the Manager today regarding the frazzled staff member —the Manager says she will have a conversation with this employee so I hope their convo makes a difference in how staff members working from the Children’s Section communicate with our little ones in the future.
Maybe next time the staff member will: Come down to the toddler’s / child’s level and express her request calmly. Ask the parent of the toddler / child to speak to them directly regarding staff member’s request. Ask another staff member to handle the situation if the observing staff member cannot keep their composure.
Also, I believe that wearing a mask whenever one feels it’s necessary for them is completely permissible but also use common sense in realizing that children, especially very young children who were not around during the global pandemic are not conditioned to them and may simply...
Read moreThe Pacific Beach Taylor Library was generously gifted to the Pacific Beach community by Earl and Bernie Taylor (Mr Taylor was a very well spoken of business man in this area). The library is a stately modern design. The exterior is very visually appealing and the grounds (a small park) is meticulously maintained. The library has a gorgeous interior which makes for a very enjoyable visit each time you go. There is an additional large room for special meetings or events on the southwest of the complex.. ask librarian).
The library is set on one square block of beautiful Pacific Beach (Cass St) just 3 blocks from the ocean. This library is a very nice place to visit for reading and relaxation.
Other places nearby that you may enjoy:
Mission Bay... (5 blocks and a jog south on Cass St) A gorgeous man-made bay with a lot to offer)... Several parks to explore, miles and miles of boardwalk to bike, walk or run. Recreation center at Santa Clara Point includes basketball and tennis as well as indoor recreational facilities.
The Pacific Ocean in Pacific Beach and the Boardwalk... (3 blocks to the west). One of San Diego's favorite beaches. Gorgeous cliff views from the north and miles of white sandy beaches. Very popular boardwalk also.
Garnet Ave... busiest business corridor in Pacific Beach... Very popular businesses include many bars and nightclubs, restaurants, fast food, markets, boutiques and specialty shops, thrift stores and much more. (my favorite store is Pangaea Outpost on Garnet at Bayard... showcases many artists wares... (see photos on Google Maps).
Best restaurant on Garnet is Pacific Beach Fish Shop (Garnet at Kendall) although this is certainly debatable. Also check out Ichiban (I love this place.. near Gresham on Garnet). Been going there for years with family, friends and business clients.
Best Coffee shop in Pacific Beach is 976 on Cass St and Felspar. (4 blocks north of library). (see photos on Google Maps)
Crystal Pier Hotel... (3 blocks north to Garnet 3 blocks west to pier). Fishing and great views. Pier is open to public daily until sunset. (see photos on Google Maps)
Pacific Beach has a lot of visitors from all over the world as this is one of the most active fun beach towns in America.

Read moreFirst off. I have always loved coming here. The staff is usually kind and very helpful. However, today, I asked a question about a piece of furniture where they kept the old library cards. Well, the woman librarian must have thought I was talking about seed packages kept in the cabinet. She jumped up and said, " We don't sell seeds! In fact, you have to fill out this form, and then you pick 3 seeds. Then you take a picture of them and send it back to us. The seeds you harvest must be returned to give away." I was stunned and said, " Oh, never mind was just asking about the file cabinets." With that, she abruptly shoved a form in my face. "Fill this out!" I explained I was not interested in the seeds. At that point, she just ignored me. I'm 74 years old. Maybe she treats the homeless like they are invisible, and that's sad. If there is a problem at the library, then don't take it out on someone who is respectful and a lifelong library patron. It's horrible to be treated like that in your own library that you love and have been going to for many...
