So I will start by saying that I've been here at least 6 times. It's near my work so I've been here for lunch a few times (both solo and with coworkers). I also came here for my anniversary for dinner. I have always loved this place, the food, and the service...at least until today. I went for lunch today (Wednesday) around 1pm and the hostess seated me in a section by myself. Now the outdoor area has two sides, with the building in between the two. It was a little weird to me that I'd be in a section by myself with plenty of shaded seats on the other side where other customers were, but I thought there was a server that needed more tables or something. Well, it took 10 minutes for the same server who was working the other section to come to my table, and I ordered food and drink immediately and the drink (non-alcoholic) arrived another ten minutes later. Luckily, the food came shortly after and was great. The veggie curry pie was flavorful and full of chunky veggies. The raspberry lemonade is very refreshing and sweet. However, any shade I had was gone, so I was left baking and after only one check-in when my food arrived, I was forgotten. I tried to flag down my waiter or host three times for some extra sauce (which I gave up on), and then to ask for the check. Neither responded and never looked to my empty section, but seated and waited on people on the other side. I finally had to physically walk my sweaty self to the hostess to ask for a check and a box (another 10 minutes) and finally left. I only leave this review to say that whoever was working as waiter outside and host today was not to the level of service I usually get at Queenstown around this time. If it was my first time, I'd understand, but I genuinely believe it could have been better, even with small things. I could have been seated in the shade in the same section of customer that were being attended to in a timely manner (plenty of people got seated there after me). I also could have stood with at least another check-in since I was there an hour and...
Read moreCame here in search of a good burger and definitely got that, but also paid a VERY heavy bill!
I got the Bombay chicken burger with grilled chicken. The combination on that was just amazing! Grilled chicken, cucumber, avocado, yogurt dressing, mango chutney going on and just so good. Everything just went amazingly well together. The quantity of chicken on there was really good as well. The overall burger size was a bit small.
My fiance got the Meso Tasty Burger (grilled pineapple, sweet onion chips, swiss, red pepper aioli). The flavor on his was really nice as well. He definitely enjoyed it! It was very different from mine so not something I would have had at the same time. But very good all in all on its own. Good quantity of chicken here as well and it was cooked perfectly!
We were actually very surprised that the burgers did not come with a side. We both ordered a side salad each and that was around 10 bucks! A bit too expensive for a side salad I would say. The portion size of that side salad was bigger than expected though so it was pretty decent. It came with strawberries and pumpkin seeds and balsamic vinaigrette (which we got on the side).
You also ordered the Beet Salad - one each. This was beautiful! We were surprised there was no dressing but everything went amazingly well together! It had a tiny bit of arugula on there which we were expecting more of. So we ended up having some of the greens from the side salad along with the beets. The pickled onions were a very pleasant surprise. This thing even got us so hooked on beets, we went and bought our own to make salads at home!
Portion size on the Beet Salad was a lot so we actually ended up having only half the salad each.
I would say very good food here but you...
Read moreWhat a cool and charming place to enjoy delicious food, creative cocktails and lemonades ... I've been at the Queenstown a couple of times since I discovered it two years ago. Usually we go for brunch, but today we arrived for lunch to try something different. Wild Boar Burger, Bare Lamb Burger and always my personal favorite: Portobello fries with rosemary dipping sauce. MUST TRY, absolutely amazing!! Today we sat inside because it was too chilly to be outside and you don't want your food to get cold as soon as it arrives. It's a restaurant to relax and enjoy every bite because the food is really tasty. Inside is cozy with an interior design that is original and interesting. Antique silver plated home wares pieces drilled in the wood panels. The ceiling with wire shaped sheep stuffed with white cotton, emulating the real sheep. There's even a canoe hanging from the wall by the bar, and many more interesting things to look at. In the end, it's a very creative atmosphere. I'm wondering how they came up with this idea. There are other cool decorations around the restaurant. There's definitely a New Zealand inspiration and feeling here. I've been to New Zealand and it's definitely an amazing country to visit. The staff are cordial and professional from the hostess to waitress; uniforms are clean just as is the establishment as a whole. By the way, the menu changes from brunch to lunch to dinner. Don't forget to check out Little Italy's Farmers Market on Saturdays as well. It's definitely worth exploring downtown San Diego...
