A colleague from Europe was visiting and we decided to treat him at the Spot. Few of us are being customers since they’ve moved here in San Diego in the 90is.Always loved their deep dish pizza. In fact we were there only few days before for our girls night out and it was great as always. But last night…well, what an unfortunate experience. It’s a Tuesday night, the place is very slow. Since the beginning we noticed lack of service, the dining room wasn’t supervised by the stuff. The hostess didn’t greet us,not even a “good evening “…well not a big deal.We didn’t know it was just the beginning!! I am not gonna describe all the details about the luck in service,it will be too annoying and probably most of the readers will not believe me,it was so unprofessional. Our server disappeared most of the time,so difficult to have someone’s attention, they were all inside the kitchen or chatting at the bar,we even saw our server walking in the back with a Corona beer for himself!! The frustration was very high and when, finally,we got our server’s presence he had a rude attitude and he act a little bit racist too. Sure,we have a strong accent, but he made my friends repeat herself 5times “12 inches” just to diminish her. I was so embarrassed in front of our European guest, what an unfavorable impression for him! Long story short,As a business owner myself,I feel so bad for the owner of this restaurant. A rude server and an unethical “manager” with both a big Ego,can partially ruin your establishment. I hope this review can put a Red Flag to the owner,as the manager suggested -we should consider not coming back anymore-…but seriously?why are you working in the HOSPITALITY Industry if you’re so intolerable and brazen?

Hidden gem! Well, it’s in plain sight really but we overlooked it several times. This place is drool worthy casual luxury. The menu is HUGE! Enjoy the indoor freshly remodeled bar and grill vibe or the ambiance of the cove nightlife in the outdoor seating which is fully equipped with torch heaters. They have a bit of everything for your entire family. Spicy taste? They’ve got you! I ordered the shrimp appetizer with their famous spicy sauce as my meal… oh my goodness it was yummy. My husband got the jambalaya chicken pasta & was planning to take leftovers because he wasn’t “that hungry”… ate the entire dish. Do we have room for dessert? Nope… ate it anyway! Churro and ice cream. Oh and they have hot chocolate 😍. I looked pregnant for an entire day following this meal LOL. Price to value, this is the BEST PLACE TO DINE in La Jolla cove. Our waitress Emily was great. When we bring our kids back to San Diego we will 100% be coming for The Spot!

My Husband and I visited The Spot on an early Sunday evening while visiting La Jolla, we actually had seen it in passing and when I was researching restaurants on Yelp later that day, The Spot came up with good reviews and had a good list of beer selections so we thought we'd give it a try! It did not disappoint! The Spot seems like a cool "spot" (pun intended) to catch a game as they had multiple TVs, plenty of seating, a decent sized bar and lots of long tables for larger groups. It gives off the "sports bar" vibes while maintaining a clean, relaxed environment. They offer a great selection of menu items, offering a good variety of something for everyone! We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer, and I ordered the Beer Battered Fish & Chips as my entrée while my Husband ordered the Garbage Burger - both dishes were really good! I will say the portions are a decent size, especially if your dish comes with fries, so come hungry!

  • WARNING * I will NEVER ever support the spot ever again and recommend you RUN as fast as possible away from this place. They do not even deserve 1 star and sadly yelp does not offer a choice for this.

My family just experienced one of the most heart wrenching, disappointing and blood boiling experiences I couldn't have even every fathomed.

Some of the context behind this statement is that The Spot has literally been our weekly staple for at least the last 10 years, we are in there at least once a week, it's the place our family requests as soon as they get off the plane and then we're there several times within a week.

Personally I have never cared for the first and it wouldn't be my first choice, the food is all frozen and heated up nothing creative or tasteful about it. Most of time I am kicking and screaming when we go there but members of our family adore it and so it's represented family to us but I've had more disappointing meals to count but because of the love my family members have I've continued to sullenly support this over the years. (It *almost wants to make me celebrate in how bad of a situation this was but I will never ever tolerate mistreatment of my family & friends) (side note the only recent they ever had was the lamb lollipops, duck sausage and calamari and they took them all off the menu )

My mom gets off the plane Friday night and where are we headed? The spot of course...

We sat immediately per usual. And the waitress (we had never seen her before) immediately acted annoyed we were there, slamming menus down, acting annoyed when we hadn't had our orders ready as we were still all greeting one another and catching up. Had to flag her down to try and get her attention once we were ready.

Placed the orders, and then proceeded to wait an abnormal amount of time. Finally the pizza appeared but the other remaining dishes did not appear, we inquired about the other entrees and she said they would be out.

23 minutes later the other entrees had NOT appeared yet and when gently inquired suggested about bringing out a drink on the house since these wait times were getting ridiculous. The waitress turns around and heads back to the kitchen acknowledging nothing.

The next moment was the true outrage, a man that appeared to be mid thirties popped out, and immediately leans down to the table in an aggressive stance and literally tells my grandmother and grandfather "you have a choice you can either eat or leave" my grandparents in shock that someone just spoke to them this way. My grandparents asked to speak with the manager he replies "I am the manager" they asked to speak with the owner his reply " I AM THE OWNER" hard to believe since this restaurant is 35 years old and he doesn't appear to be older than 40.

The waitress comes back to apologize for the said " RUDE behavior from this man" and replied that he was the "owners son"

The table across just gawked at what they just witnessed and also replied they too have been coming for years and had never observed such disorienting and rude behavior.

It was utterly shocking and left my family in disbelief, I was in anger and tears and can't believe something like this could have ever occurred.

Never ever will we support this establishment and after treatment such as this, and I do not say this lightly this place deserves to not be in business after such treatment and gracious patronage we've had for over 10 years and the thousands of dollars spent to keep their doors open and then such disgusting,...

To the Concerned Public,

I find it necessary to provide a public advisory regarding a recent and unfortunate incident at this establishment. It is imperative that individuals seeking a dignified and unbiased environment be made aware of the concerning behavior exhibited, necessitating a reconsideration of their patronage.

Upon my recent visit, I was confronted with a disconcerting display of unprofessional conduct by a visibly intoxicated bartender. Disturbingly, I received derogatory comments, specifically "That's why no one likes you," based on a subjective assessment of my greeting volume. Subsequent to this unwarranted interaction, the bartender continued to manifest unprofessionalism through demeaning facial expressions.

The matter further escalated when I, alongside a regular patron, was subjected to early carding—an irregular practice selectively enforced. The regular patron, to her own surprise, relayed that the bartender communicated a deliberate decision through a conspicuous "wink," suggesting an arbitrary correlation between early carding and our association.

Compounding the issue, a fellow barback, perplexed and unaware of any disturbance caused by my presence, was tasked with ejecting me from the establishment. The lack of substantiated cause for such an action raises legitimate concerns.

As it stands, I have been inexplicably banned from the premises. It is crucial for the public to be aware that discriminatory practices and unsubstantiated banning from establishments are not only unethical but may also contravene legal protections in place.

I encourage potential patrons to carefully consider the implications of supporting an establishment that engages in such behavior. As a public service announcement, I wish to underscore the importance of patrons being cognizant of their rights to a discrimination-free environment.

Based on these circumstances, I advise caution and a thoughtful reconsideration of patronage at this...
