This place is a 10/10! I had been a few times before and have always enjoyed their gelato. The staff is great, as well. Recently I was craving some gelato and tried to go to Bobboi on a Sunday night in summer and their was a line out the door. So I went to a cafe in Little Italy instead and had some of their gelato. A few days later I was in the area and Bobboi had opened early so I had some gelato for breakfast. With my experience in Little Italy freshly in my mind, it became clear to me that this shop is in another league compared to the other shops in San Diego! And I say that having been to many gelato shops. I had a chance to speak with the owner since the shop was not busy. He talked to me about some of the things they do differently to make the gelato, and he and his friend also gave me recommendations for an upcoming trip to Italy (about gelato and more). The owner confidently stated "I would be a good gelato shop in Italy." And to that I have to say he is correct. After three hot summer weeks in Europe and after eating lots of gelato in Hungary, Holland, and of course Italy, I will not only say he would be a good gelato shop in Italy but that this shop is world class! It became a sort of challenge in my mind to find better gelato than Bobboi and no one came close. I am amazed by the authenticity of the flavors and the luxurious textures. Not only in the standard gelato but in the vegan options as well. As an omnivore that enjoys meat and rich foods I tend to shy away from vegetarian or vegan options but here I don't feel like you are making a compromise.

Read moreBobboi is a pretty fantastic place to get gelato. They have a wide selection of very authentic Italian flavors (thin hazelnut pistachio, chocolate) that they combine together really well to make exceptional dessert. There’s a very minimal seating but you’re so close to the beach you should honestly just take it to go and walk. We are only here for four days and there’s a pretty high chance will be back.
Order: Large (3 scoops) Price: $14
Review: Bobboi is a little gelato café about a five minute walk from the La Jolla beach. My wife and I both love gelato but honestly I’ve had a lot of mediocre gelato and so I am often hesitant to just try it. It seems like ice cream is harder to get wrong. Bobboi did enough to draw us in, they had some free samples and got amazing reviews, so we gave them a shot.
Their list of flavors is very traditionally Italian. They have a lot of pistachio chocolate hazelnut a little vanilla but none of the weird American strawberry and blueberry style flavors, which is a good thing in my opinion. Then they combine these to make really good flavor combinations like Mediterráneo (hazelnut, pistachio, almond) and Bacoi (dark chocolate and pistachio).
We settled on those two flavors and their charcoal vanilla and all three of them were killer. My wife and I both preferred different flavors but agreed that all three of them were killer and well worth going for. Yeah, so I would definitely recommend trying Bobboi as their gelato is fantastic. Plus it’s close to the beach so how can you go wrong with amazingly authentic Italian gelato...
Read moreIt is hard to be critical about a business that seems to have everything figured out. The gelato is made fresh every day from locally sourced and organic ingredients, and there are options and flavors for all tastes and preferences. Many of the flavors are changed daily and some of them are always on the menu due to the constant demand for them. We tried both and did not regret it. The pistachio, which is always the first kind I try at any gelateria, is so good that I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. You can feel the creamy, nutty paste ingeniously blended with the dairy and elevated in this masterpiece. Thank you! Ditto for the Bacio, which is my other all time favorite - chocolatey, nutty and addictively tasty. I had to force myself to eat it slowly so I could fully enjoy it. My wife got the goat cheese and grape - unexpectedly yummy and not "goaty" at all. Usually when products are "grape flavored" it's a strong, overpowering and somewhat synthetic taste. Here you could feel the grapes just as a subtle tone - very cool. The other flavor we tried was the salted caramel, which was the only one that I couldn't quite appreciate as the caramel was a bit "in your face" and although I'm sure many people love it that way, I think it was kind of strong for me personally. I also ordered an affogato despite the late hour - had to try coffee and was not disappointed. The bottom line - you gotta have it! Get a cup and walk a block down to the shore to enjoy this amazing dessert while watching...
