Priced at $16for lunch time (also on weekends, yes), this is the cheapest AYCE korean bbq ive found so far. The meat is not as good as in Gen or in Thirsty cow (LA) but it is definitely comparable if we factor in the price.
TL;DR cheaper than others, huge quantities of meat (do NOT order 4 types in the first round if you are just 2 reular eating people, 2 or 3 should be enough), mediocre banchan, ok service, depending on how busy they are.
We arrived quite early, when there were maybe 2 more tables only, but it soon started to fill up and the 2 waitresses became 6 all of a sudden. I think the first 2 were a bit overwhelmed, and altho service was good for us at first and at last, I could feel very ignored in the middle of our meal, when more tables came in and there were only 2-3waitresses. One of the waiters, the young guy, was extremely nice and helpful, maybe he was the freshest one or maybe he just was better at managing the stress and chaos of working in a korean bbq place.
One of my "complaints" is that they give you way too much meat. They prompt you to choose up to 4 meats per round (and as many rounds as you want because its AYCE), and i thought they would bring a bit of each... but just the samgyeopsal (pork belly) already consisted on 6 pieces of pork belly! Be bbq chicken was 3 deboned chicken legs, and the bulgogi and marinated pork also came in grand quantities. Seeing that we were 2 people of small/medium size, i feel like the waitress could have warned us of the amount of meats they would give us! Why does it matter? 1) wasting food in general is bad. 2) the restaurant charges you $15 if you overorder and have leftovers. Apparently the huge amount of meat we left (no way to finish it) wasnt considered over ordering at all, but for a good hour we thought it would be considered overordering and that we would be forced to pay more... so we kept eating until we couldnt handle it anymore.
Lastly, banchan (side dishes) werent very good.. my husband liked the kimchi but we didnt get any japchae like other commentors, and also missing the raddish sheets. For the boiled eggs it is an extra $5... :(
Id like to come back again on a Monday and try orderig a la carte with their special price of $10.95! That should be enough food for me~ we really enjoyed the bulgogi and the marinated pork. Samgyeopsal was mediocre, and harder to get right in the...
Read moreWe thought the price of $15.99 for All-You-Can-Eat lunch was okay. Table was not clean, moved to next table still not clean!! Bathroom was even worse!! You can order 4 different meat at a time, some of the meat only available for dinner. Pork belly that look like thick bacon was hard to chew. It is all you can eat, so you can order as many as you like from the menu within 2 hour limit. Then the owner lady told us what we ordered would be last one, the restaurant was closing at 2:30 for dinner. We pointed out it is 2pm and we got there at 1pm that we haven't even been there 2 hour. The boss lady said she was going to permit another 15 minutes. She kept hovering around our table, it was kind of unnerving. Our table was one of the 2 tables left while the restaurant was closing. The 2 other customers who were sitting at other table, came about 20 minutes after we got there. It can be clearly heard that the owner is telling them they have either 45 minutes to eat or dinner price not the lunch price (only the owner lady's voice can be heard really loud, maybe she wanted us to hear what she is telling other customers). The customers might have agreed with the dinner price, they stayed there when we left. It really just left bad taste so we left and the owner closed the door right behind us. It seems kind of weird, the server said the tip money is divided among the servers including the owner. The server didn't know the boss lady's name whom they...
Read moreI love KBBQ, from SoCal to NorCal, you will never hear me say no to an invite. First, the location is great. You're in the heart of Japantown and have easy access to so many other things in the city outside of Japantown - walk from Fillmore District, car ride from Union Square. And if you decide you are not craving KBBQ, you are in a shopping area that has so many other places to grab a bite at.
But I regress, back to Bequeath BBQ grill. It's true, the place is enjoyed by many, unfortunately, I feel that I could get more bang for my buck elsewhere. They have a really wonderful and attentive staff, our grill was never "burned" or charred as the team would switch out and replace the grills before doing so. I think for me, it might have been the quality of the flame. My go to meat, the brisket was extremely dry. I even tried different methods like marinating my brisket in the sauces they provided before grilling it and after and it was not the same. Lastly, when we paid for our food, they did not provide us with the little yogurt drink that they usually provide. I saw a ton of them at the counters and we did not get any.
Overall I am sure the place is still good, its convenient, decently priced, and has attentive staff, but for me, it...
