Outstanding food, quiet'ish atmosphere, decent-to-great service, but VERY high prices*.
I had the limited-time "Holi" menu, which for the $70 (including many delicious courses!) was an absolute steal for this place. Their normal pricing is definitely on the high side, even for upscale hotels.
But if your budget allows, this'd be a stellar place to take a date or your parents or even just treat yourself. Every dish and drink I had was SUPER-DELICIOUS, with fine presentation as well as great flavor & texture. And to my happy surprise, I was 100% stuffed after the prix fixe Holi menu, whereas these sort of menus often provide artful food but not enough of it.
The meats were tender, the breads were perfect, the veg dishes were prepared masterfully, and even my breakfast potatoes were seasoned and crisped to perfection! (why is it otherwise so hard to find deliciously crispy and flavorful breakfast potatoes nowadays?!)
The waitstaff that helped me were competent, professional, and attentive. My water glass was never empty. Even better, I heard and watched some of the interactions with other patrons and some of the other waitstaff were even more helpful, engaging, and friendly.
I've not incorporated pricing/value into my ratings here because, well, you can see the pricing online but you can't taste the food or experience the service, so I figure it's more helpful when reviews focus on the...
Read moreI went for dinner as I had $100 in credit via the hotel upstairs, I do live in San Francisco.
First of all, good god what is with these price points? I assure you that this is not "what Union Square costs". Even the Times Square Olive Garden manages to keep prices not silly.
I got the Chicken Biryani ($36) and the garlic naan ($8), with just sparking water ($12!) to drink. Both were perfectly fine, but the portions are all out of wack. The biryani could have probably been split by two people but it was only one piece of naan.
The dining room is decent, but nothing special. It was not busy on a Thursday night, so the party of 7 tech bros (that's gender neutral) dining clearly on the company tab and discussing their favorite tech conferences was the main thing I could hear.
Now the service: If you're going to put 18% automatic gratuity on absolutely every check, make sure it isn't disjointed and slow, especially if you think your place is "fine dining". Also fix your front door so it, you know, opens?
Absolutely skip this place unless you have credits from upstairs or I guess like to spend $75 for one person to have chicken, rice, bread and water. I highly recommend going to Rooh about a mile away instead if you want actual Indian fine dining in a far superior environment with...

We went there on a Friday evening , after trying to find reservation for a week. The restaurant is quite new and well decorated, the chandelier is pretty with marble table tops, altogether classy decor.
We ordered their chicken tikka, which is probably the best chicken tikka I had in the states , and highly recommended. My wife ordered their avocado puffed rice dish, which was also excellent. For main course, we got naan and paneer makhani, both of these dishes were excellent.
Their staffs were also extremely friendly and ready to help.
My only reason to give 4 stars, is the spice level in their food, it’s bit too spicy for my taste. I like my Indian food less less spicy, as I have a very low spice tolerance, so I recommend the management put a spicy symbol beside their dishes in the menu, for people like me with low spice tolerance.
But altogether , solid Indian restaurant in the city, probably the...
