The hotel's elevator inspection permit expired on 12/16/2021, you can see the expired permit on their elevator wall. I stayed in a room next to the elevator and the elevator was making very loud noise all night long so I couldn't sleep at all. The window also wasn't very sound proof, so I could hear the noise on the street quite well.
I tried to check out the next day but the hotel staff insisted they have prepared a new room for me --- a room that's one room away from the elevator. I didn't want to risk staying an extra night in a room that might be just as noisy. Also, I didn't feel safe staying any more after noticing their elevator permit expired in Dec 2021. So I asked to check-out but they refused. I didn't know hotels can force customers to stay if they don't feel safe to. They proceeded to charge me for three nights even though I have already moved to a different hotel (so they are basically charging money for an empty room).
It took me 3 hours on the phone going back and forth with the Expedia agents and the hotel manager to settle on getting a refund. It was eye opening to see the Expedia agents and the hotel staff telling me completely different stories of which party is responsible for the refund. Eventually I went to the hotel in person because I know this issue will only get ignored over the phone. Putting the Expedia agent and the hotel manager on the phone was helpful so they can call out who is lying. Was able to finally get a refund for two nights, although IMO I should have gotten a full refund as the room shouldn't have been listed for staying at the very first place. Shouldn't have been this hard....
Read moreJust got back from a very enjoyable stay at Hotel 32One.|We had room 1005 which is on the top ( 10th ) floor and comprises a big bedroom with bathroom and an equally large living room also with its own bathroom. |Hotel is in a fantastic and safe location only a few minutes walk from Union Square.|Plenty of places for breakfast ( Lori’s diner was a particular favourite ) only a short walk away. |There is a bar attached to the hotel which we didnt use, an Irish pub opposite which we went to once and enjoyed, but our favourite was the Last Drop Tavern about 5 minutes walk away on Powell street. ||Theres a few negatives which are valid but shouldn’t be a reason not to book - the lift is very slow ! And our room did have a/c but was so noisy in operation it would be impossible to sleep with it on. Also the water pressure in our room was very low meaning the shower wasnt great - maybe because we were on the top floor. ||However the positives definitely outweigh the negatives- the location is perfect and safe, the bed is big and comfortable. Bottled water and a coffee machine are in the room and there is also fresh coffee available in the lobby. Wifi works very well and the TV in the room was huge. There is a large safe in the room and bathrobes are also provided. ||Some reviews mention a lack of housekeeping- we were told on check in that making up of the rooms is done on demand - you can have your room cleaned daily if you want - you just need to ask at the reception desk. ||We would happily stay here again if we return to...
Read moreLiterally my worst hotel experience ever.
Clock radio is also USB charger that is easily set to go off at 6am if lightly nudged while plugging in. Alarms around the entire floor therefore went off simultaneously at 6am.
The ancient steam heating is stuck on 'cook everybody alive'.
The room has cheap threadbare curtains that let in plenty of light.
There is NO parking despite contrary claims and only one staff member on duty so can't imagine how the expensive valet parking might work.
The area is extremely noisy and the room was directly over a loading bay. Someone was loading recycling onto a truck in the street until after midnight, morning was reversing trucks and general clatter. Conversations in the corridor were loud and go right through the door, exacerbated by people waiting patiently for the single elevator.
In the morning there was a strong smell of someone smoking in another room.
Room is tiny, decor is dated, there are no facilities, shower is over an ancient narrow claw foot bathtub with a 2 1/2 foot step up that actually rocks while standing in it which is terrifying, sink has one tiny and fragile glass shelf for toileteries directly over the toilet. Toilet paper holder is literally on the other side of the bathroom and unreachable without a walk. Only 3 towels were provided for the 4 of us.
Also the hotel has the normal US disease of two double beds instead of a double and bunk/two singles - even a 10 story hotel seems to be incapable of catering for families in...
