This is one of the city’s best kept secret when it comes to fine dining. The value and quality for what you pay is exceptional. The space is not too big so it feels more intimate. I’m always surprised when people haven’t heard about Campton Place Restaurant! It’s by far one of the best Californian-Indian Cuisines I’ve had! This restaurant has had at least 1-2 Michelin stars for 8 years in a row. I gotta check again to make sure so don’t quote me on that. Lol. 🤓
I’ve dined here for dinner as well but my most recent visit was to check out their new brunch menu. My hubby and I def ordered with our eyes but it was worth it! They have some really good options to choose from!
We started off with the new 3x3 terroir champagne tasting (they’ll have different champagnes on rotation...I think) for $65.
Of course we had to get the Caviar service with our champagne tasting, it’s only fitting!👌🏼
For small course, we got 2 things.
Soft scrambled eggs is my favorite and really hard to find a place that makes it good in the city (shocking!). They’ve managed to do it well here. We asked for no smoked salmon because we’re not huge fans of smoked salmon in general. 🍞🍳
Warm naan buns and fondue with black Australian truffle ($40 for .5 grams of truffle = worth it)! OH MY GOSH, these simple small bites were magical. 10/10 recommend. It’s bomb af! 🍞🧀🥔
For our main course, we got 3 options because we were really hungry and wanted to try a bit of everything as much as we could.
The Maine lobster roll with curry vinaigrette is the BEST nontraditional lobster roll we’ve had. I’m throughly impressed by what chef did here! I believe they use brown butter to grill the brioche bun which is absolutely crispy and perfect. Perfection! 10/10 recommend. 🍞🦞🍞
The cheeseburger is a pretty good size. We got medium and the burger patty was cooked to perfection...tender and juicy! I highly recommend if you’re in the mood for a good burger. This paired very well with one of the rosés we had! 🍔
Gulf prawns coconut curry, very light and fluffy curry. It’s almost like a curry soup. This was really good with the basmati rice. 🦐🥔🥕🍅
Dessert, we were pretty stuffed but there’s always room for dessert in my tummy!
The Elderberry cheesecake was the perfect way to end the meal. It’s not too sweet which is perfect for me! 🍰
Oops on the long review but I thoroughly enjoyed their new brunch menu and wanted to share with everyone else. I can’t wait to go back to try other...
Read moreI had dinner here a few years ago, so take this with a grain of salt.
The restaurant space was small and crowded. Not a good date restaurant...if you want to hear what the other person is saying that is.
We arrived about 10 minutes early from the scheduled reservation, but our table wasn't free yet so we were promptly scooted over to the bar to wait with some complimentary champagne - sweet! Not the best bubbly in the world, but not the worst either. I suppose you get what you pay for - so in that sense it was pretty decent.
I was served one amuse bouche and it was good. The foam of arugula and green apple topped with macadamia nuts was a true party in my mouth.
The four course prix fixe menu included:
Lobster Ravioli (Minus) Homemade pasta that was slightly chewy. Kind of like it was boiled a few hours earlier, was left to sit out and then reheated.) (Plus) The lobster was fresh and perfectly cooked. (Minus) A few remnants of lobster shells were found in one of the raviolis I ate. Doh. (Plus) The truffle shavings added a touch of luxury to the first course and deep notes of nutty rich flavor to compliment the ravioli and sauce.
Square Soup with a Cod Beignet (Plus) Warm, creamy soup that will warm your heart AND soul. (Enter warm and fuzzy feeling here.) (Minus) An uber doughy beignet. I wanted to taste a crispy outside with a freshly fried chewy inside. But it was just cold and mushy.
Braised Prime Beef Short Ribs (Plus) It melted in my mouth, the beef was THAT tender. (Minus) While the short ribs are known to be a fatty cut, my piece was abnormally fatty with 80% fat with 20% meat. Ehhh.
Apple Tarte with a Green Apple Sorbet (Minus) Fancy take on apple pie - just ok. (Plus) The sorbet was refreshing and a nice pallet cleansing way to finish the meal. A perfect balance to sweet and sour.
Overall - the wine pairing was above average. The Sommelier at Campton Place gets five stars The food was ok, but for the small fortune spent it just wasn't...
Read moreImpeccable service, ambiance, and food creativity & quality gives Taj Campton Place Restaurant a consistent perfect score from me & my wife. This is a place to eat at for special occasions. We always have the vegetarian tasting menu and it is wonderful. If you want the best food and service, this is where to go. This is always one of the best dining experiences.
Service: Taj Hotels owns this, & is a leading Indian hotel chain. Their service is perfect & staff are trained to make you happy. The service at this hotel is no different. Expect the best. The staff are really focused on you & they will cater what they serve to your dietary needs.
Ambiance: Nice quiet but not stuffy atmosphere. The seating area is limited. You should plan on spending 2 or more hours here depending on the # of items you want in the tasting menu.
Food: The food served here is upscale, with unique items, & many items that are Indian fusion. This is the place to eat if you want to try items you will not get anywhere else. The food comes in small portions & they will bring it to you at the pace you want. The creativity and quality is great. The menus change seasonally. They also accommodate special diets, but best to let them know in advance. As of Nov 2016, they have moved to having a standard 7 course tasting menu, which ends up being like 10 courses.
My wife & I have their vegetarian tasting menu several times, & have no regrets. We also added some of their truffles to one dish, had non alcoholic Navarro wine, vegetarian cheese, lassis, & mint lemonade. On another occasion, they created a special menu for my wife's birthday that was incredibly good. They time when they bring each item & most are small, but by the time your 2 hour dining experience is over, you are full.
This is truly one of the top restaurants in the world. Chef...
