We were very excited about trying out this new "hot spot." The space is unpretentious and it was packed at 6pm on a Wednesday. The server had a fun attitude and we were able to spot many of the tasty-looking plates that other diners were enjoying. Then it came time for our order.
The martini I had was made to perfection. We shared a Caesar Salad which was dreamy. It was plenty for two. The dressing was the perfect amount and delectable. The "croutons" were crisped bread crumbs which was a unique take as well as being tasty. We really enjoyed it.
My dining partner had the sole meuniere which was perfectly done and swimming in a pool of butter. It was lovely.
My burger was more the size of a slider than a hamburger. It also had little flavor. I asked for salt which the server eventually brought. She also belatedly gave me some ketchup and mustard. Unfortunately I had already had two bites (which was half the burger) so that was disappointing.
The fries that came with the burger (which was not advertised on the menu) were mostly "little bits". Perhaps this is intentional but why don't restaurants give you a serving of normal-sized fries? It would be so much easier to eat one at a time and not have to pick up small crunchy bits to try and dip into your ketchup. Michael Mina certainly knew how to this the right way. The fries also required salt.
We had to ask twice for the wine we ordered. My dining partner got a glass with about 4 oz, mine looked to be only 3 oz. I thought this odd but didn't say anything.
We had the Madeleines with chocolate sauce and creme anglaise for desert. They were good.
The server plopped the check on the table before we had finished desert and without asking if we would like an aperitif or coffee. This was a little off-putting.
If you need to use the loo--it is outside the restaurant and a bit easy to get lost as you have to navigate a warren of walkways.
The total for a shared appetizer, two mains, three cocktails and a shared desert was approximately $170.
For what the meal hoped to be (a semi-fine dining experience) and the price (a tad high even by today's standards) it was a bit of a let down. The service could absolutely use some fine tuning. The food is generally good but the burger should be listed as a slider and placed under appetizers in my opinion. Perhaps some additional training for the wine pourer is in order to ensure that you get a full complement (again, particularly given...
Read moreHeard so many good things abt this place but slightly disappointed:/ Starting off positive the vibes were great, super cute chic space and very lively when I went on a Saturday night. Warm and nice staff🫶 I was seated as a walk in party of 2 at the bar at 9:40 (technically 20 before they close but they let us stay till wayyyy later!). Loved the ambience, interiors and bartenders were so kind and friendly the whole evening despite there being some obvious tension in the kitchen?
The food tho…. Ok obviously a nicer place with higher prices but some of the portions/quality are kinda crazy for the price. The oysters were very sweet and I thought the endive salad was great would order both again. The snails were yummy but not memorable since escargot tastes like butter at any restaurant would probably not reorder, same for the beef tartare. The gin and tonic was too sweet but to be fair it’s their version of a gin and tonic so maybe if you like that then go for it? The sole was yummy but not worth it for the price imo. Now as a sweet treat girl through and through the desserts had me a little sad. The soft serve texture was kinda rly icy and the chocolate shell was sO THICK. You could tell that it wasn’t even tempered and poured on too cold since is didn’t form a proper layer but made these weird web/icicles that were hard and solid but had none of the satisfying snap a chocolate shell should. It also made the actually soft serve difficult to eat bc there was now an impervious chocolate helmet protecting the fast melting soft serve🫠. The French toast was ok I think but nothing special. 10/10 espresso tho. They ran out of the maidelaines which I rly wanted to try so will be back for those👀 and a coffee and maybe some oysters. The location on the water seems like during the daytime it would be cute to sit outside on a nice day! Would come back maybe not for a meal meal but for a nibble and drink and then...
Read moreWhen you dine here, watch out for mild racism. As an asian american guy coming to dine for an anniversary dinner with my girlfriend, we were sat at a corner counter being told there were no tables available when a gentleman that came in after us was a walk in and was seated at a table after a short wait. Granted we came in 20 minutes early for our reservation and told the host we were more than happy to wait for a table since we were early. The host said the earliest we could get a table was 8:45pm when our reservation was at 6:15pm. Also for a $180 3 entree meal, you'd expect that they pay attention to detail. We got a cod dish which was the special for the day and while eating it, I almost choked on a fish bone. Granted I know fish has bones, but I don't think it was the restaurants intention to leave just one bone in there. After telling one of the servers that I almost choked on the bone, he laughed and shrugged it off like I was saying a joke or something. Mind you, the server that initially took our order never checked in with us once. I will say that one of the runners was very kind to us making sure we always had water. I believe it was either the manager or owner (he was the only one not wearing restaurant attire), had been checking in with other guests throughout the night BUT us. I made eye contact with him because I wasn't sure if he just forgot about us or ignoring us. Maybe since we were sitting in what I would call the corner of shame countertop that we weren't worthy of a check-in. I will say this as I want to give points to the ambiance as the vibes and music was great for customers to enjoy their time but throughout my experience here, it just masked how disorganized and their lack of detail. Thank you for ruining our...
