I usually don’t write a review but to my experience, I felt it was important for me to give a review about Bow Hon Restaurant. Firstly, sure, this place is a great place to eat…for those people who don’t mind frozen-to-microwave food which I wasn’t expecting from this restaurant.
My friends and I decided to go there because there was an old lady giving out a sample of tasty chicken and convinced us to go into Bow Hon Restaurant. We looked at a menu and ordered some food by writing (my friends and I are Deaf). My friends and I got savory chickens and rice. I had an orange chicken but their dressing are on bottom, the size of chickens are ridiculous small. I took a bite of it - it is bland… It doesn’t taste like fresh chicken at all. So I requested them to replace the place and they refused and augured with my friends and I. I was embarrassed by their actions. Luckily, my friend’s friend was in a town and was able to interpreter for us. He told the EXACTLY SAME THING to waitresses and guess what? They agreed with him and give us a replace plate.
WHAT IS THIS? It is not fair to us deaf people who have to deal with this craps. I personally don’t know why others people are giving this restaurant a 5 or 4 stars I’ve been to Downtown China before and I’m telling you this restaurant does not meet the standard of tasty and delicious food…I’ll not come...
Read moreDefinitely underrated and hidden gem! I would highly recommend anyone to try their clay pot rice(煲仔飯), which has soft and flavourful meat with the right amount of rice (serving around 2-3 people per pot) and after you finish the main food, don’t forget to scoop up that crispy rice at the bottom!
Amazing waitress and customer service, who were great in accommodating us on having these dishes suitable for the elderly and if you do have allergy related issues, please let them know as well.
They were so good the first time round that we had to come back with more people to try their other menu choices and different clay pot options!
Notes: check online for when they’re open before you go, so come early if you want to try these yummy choices of clay pot rice and other dishes 😋 as it does get busy!!
Here are the list of items we had and were super delicious, which I would recommend (no particular order, they were all yummy!!!)
北菇臘腸雞 煲飯 Chicken Mushroom with Sausage clay pot rice

Read moreGuys, this is not a place for dim sum, orange chicken, spicy and sour soup. This is a truly Cantonese Chinese restaurant; they are good at home/village food. They don't make dim sum here. The dim sum are brought from next door (surprise to hear it is microwave or frozen; never ever had this issue before). What you should order here are steam live fish, clay pot rice, etc. Go with a Chinese friend. The English level here is low, so miscommunication is bound to happen. My parents only liked eating here and so my family eat here when we go to Chinatown; we have been coming here for over 20 years. Never had an issue but I have witnessed frustrated customers because they did not know what to order and the waitress were awkward. But since I understand how their body language can be misunderstood, so I understand all the negative experience as described here. And they are extremely understaffed. If I were you expecting spring roll and dim sum and in a rush and attentive service, don't come here. If you are not judgmental about eating fish with a head on and don't mind the floor is sticky, and water may spilled out by accident, the food is great, if you know what to order. $60 for 3 people is not expensive in SF. They only accept cash. I give a 3 star for lack of polish in service. The food...
