The food smelled delicious, and the quality of the Carnitas themselves were excellent. However we asked for the red salsa, and she warned “oh it’s very very spicy!”. We assured her that was totally fine we like spicy food. So the super burrito was giant and a decent value for the price, as I already said the Carnitas were very good, however the burrito as a whole did not work. Large hunks of lettuce, Weirdly bland, And zero spice whatsoever - it’s like she completely left the salsa off. Furthermore the chips and salsa that they included in the bag were also subpar. The salsa tasted like tomato and nothing else, and the chips were stale store-bought round tortilla chips. We were so deeply disappointed with the burrito that it kind of ruined the meal. The employees were so nice at pleasant, but we can now see why it was totally empty. We have so many actually good options for burritos in this area so there’s absolutely no...

As the purported inventors of the Mission Burrito we definitely had to step in to check it out. The inside of the store harkens back to a time when Monte Carlos, sideburns and thick mustaches were the fad. Very 70's-80's vibes. The tile mural adorning the top portion of the restaurant is very beautiful and gives it a very local feel. The menu board is even unchanged. The owner of the restaurant hooked me up with a Super Burrito of carne asada with all the fixins. The burrito itself isn't anything mind-blowing, but it is your typical neighborhood joint that's full of history. The slight crispness of the wheat flour tortilla adds a nice touch.
Overall, a worthy place to visit for a piece of SF culinary history. The Vicente Fernandez wall piece of his outfit is a definite plus and the owner is more than glad to talk shop....
