San Francisco | A Roundup of 4ļøāƒ£ Asian-Inspired Dessert Spots in SF

I’m conflicted writing this post. Over many years (pre-pandemic) we have been great fans of Na Ya. We took friends and family there all the time and dropped in for dessert many times as well as ordered to go. I get the pandemic was hard and businesses had to adjust but I think I need to point out that I’m disappointed that they have not bounced back to a 9-piece toast dessert. In my pics you can see that pre-pandemic they offered their toast as a 9-piece dessert. Then early on during the pandemic we ordered the same toast desserts and it still came with 9 pieces. Then some time before we went back to in-person dining experiences they changed their toast desserts to only 6 pieces with the same pricing. I still went and supported them thinking it was just a temporary thing but it’s not that I feel cheated. The desserts are good and deserve 4 stars but be warned they are very sugary and you may want to share them. The presentation was everything pre-pandemic but the to go container they serve everything in makes all their items seem ā€œlessā€ but at the same prices. I’m struggling to return and my visits are now getting less frequent. 😢

I have been herea few times and had the bingsu, thai tea roti, an ovaltine dessert and the Tom yum spaghetti and loved all of it. Today I decided to try something new and ordered the crispy chicken fried rice and the ube cheesecake to go. I wish I didn’t. I just opened the ube cheesecake and it is SO DRY. It came with what looks like crumbs and even drier yam in sugar. I am so sad because I was looking forward to the dessert. It is also so small. The crispy chicken friend rice also had only a little bit of egg and no peas or carrots—basically just chicken and rice. Both items came out to $41 for me which is not worth it. I don’t think I’ll be coming back again unless I just want the Thai tea roti. At that quality you might as well get popcorn chicken next door ($9) and a fancy ube boba ($8) They have a $20 minimum spend on credit card, which I don’t mind but items are typically 12$-16$ on average + tax + tip. I didn’t get a choice whether to pay the bag fee for to go or to put it in my tote. They just charge that too. Overall pretty overpriced but they are open late. I’d stick to other items in the menu if I were you.

Let me start off saying that I am very disappointed that I can not give Na Ya a better review as my impression from the reviews online was incredible.

Upon entering, I found there to be a nicely decorated store. I was immediately greeted a server who brought us water after presenting menus.

After ordering, we waited quite a bit for our crepes to be made. I observed the preparer place whip cream on my crepe. She got stopped by the server who noted that it had been ordered without whip cream. They then proceeded in using napkins to wipe away some of the whip cream that was placed on my crepe. To cover up the mistake, I observed the preparer add more filling.

When the beautifully presented crepe was delivered to me, I asked the server if there was any whip cream placed on it as I am highly sensitive to it. She said no. I then said that I saw the preparer place whip cream on it and that I had seen her to stop. She continued to insist that none had been placed on it.

I carefully ate the crepe which was quite delicious and avoided areas that seemed to have some signs of whip cream.

When the check arrived, my guest observed that one of the crepes was a higher charge even though they were similar and should have been the same price. I brought this up to the server who consulted one of the owner's. She said that she would correct the error. A correct check was delivered with no apology but only an excuse that there was something wrong with the register.

Overall, the desserts purchased were delicious, however the long wait for the food and poor customer service deem this as a place that I would...

Came here so many times before, and tonight I Came here for desserts with my friends. We decided to try their rice and noodle after we saw the menu. We ordered lot of food. We got the Thai spicy basil with ground pork(medium spicy) and the udon Tom yum with shrimp(medium spicy). For the dessert, we got the cha thai roti, Ovaltine volcano, and kaya toast. First of all, I think they are all nice and delicious. I will come back for their food for sure because they are really good, and they open until midnight. However, they have poor service. It's a very small restaurant, but the waitress just keep using her phone. She didn't even see it when we raise our hands few times because she just focus on her phone. She didn't even hear us to say excuse me out loud. It's not just our table. The table next to us had the same problem too. The waitress just keep using her phone all the time and both of our table needed to wait until she put down her phone. Also, if you ask for extra sauce, they will charge you $1.50 without telling you. I asked for two extra sauces with two of my desserts. They put the sauces on two small teaspoons. When I got the bill, it shows "open food$3". I asked the waitress what is the "open food", and she said "oh, it's the sauces." "We charge $1.50 for each, so it's 3 dollar." They should tell the customers in the first place! Btw, the price on yelp isn't right. The price on yelp is cheaper than the...

Wished I had seen the menu before we sat down. We ordered the oval tine was just hot chocolate that I can make at home. Nothing special, was expecting a nice flavorful hot chocolate coffee. Served in styrofoam cups, like I ordered from a takeout donut shop. What happened to nice glass cups? Over priced, $5.99, they want you to tip on the tax it should be on subtotal. Music is too loud too. No hot coffee choices. Noticed all the food items are overpriced averaging $16.99 a plate. Waitress tried to push food items on us ā€œIs that all you want to order - nothing else? I said to myself, ā€œLady, I’m being ripped off already by your outrageous prices. Don’t make me more mad!ā€ I’m glad we didn’t order food, is way over priced and I read they put automatic 18% gratuity even for a small party. A lot of customers complain about this. Very disappointed, I was hoping for a specialty chocolate coffee drink like we had at Japantown plaza. My partner asked how much is one scoop of ice cream, server said $5.95, I can buy a half gallon of ice cream at Safeway for $4.50. Don’t come here. Is a real ripoff place! Many nice dessert places in SF with reasonable prices and better...
