We unexpectedly visited this place for brunch today. Oh my, WAS IT GREAT!!!! First of all, all the pastries and sandwiches we got were freshly made and delicious - way above what we expected. I was also impressed that this is the first cafe/restaurant in SF that didn’t even have landfill trash - you only see compost, recycle, or wash/reuse bin. Later today, I visited their website and found this statement - “a non profit social enterprise providing employment and training for people with disabilities, who are homeless or at risk.” So they’re sustainable and also humanitarian. I think we need more places like this, especially in SF. My fiance and I entered here without much thoughts and expectations, and we decided to visit here again (although we don’t live nearby).

Unpretentious bake shop in Hayes Valley that offers a large variety of baked goods (bread, pastry, muffins, scones, empanadas, etc) at reasonable prices, and operate as a non-profit social enterprise. I tried their banana bread, which is delicious with good texture; and a mushroom empadana that was good as well but I wished it had been a bit richer.

Omg a Mexican Chocolate cookie?! 👀 So moist and delicious. Also their jalapeño biscuit sandwich was soft and very tasty. They use cornmeal, and it’s not spicy. Had it warmed up, and the egg was still soft and warm on the inside. Really affordable for most SF places, and they don’t upcharge you for milk substitutions, I really appreciate that.

This place is divine. Selection, flavors, priced right. The baked goods are exactly as the tags say. They taste exactly like you image - perfect. I got quite the selection this morning, just had the Mexican hot chocolate snickerdoodle cookie. Oh my, I wish I had gotten a few more. It’s perfectly chocolaty, just like a rich cup of homemade from scratch hot coco. But then the spice from Mexican hot coco comes through - so good. And the cinnamon sugar on the outside balances the spice as well as the rich chocolate.

I also got the egg salad sandwich (needed to eat some ‘real’ food before indulging in the baked goods). The egg salad had some diced fresh jalapeños in it. They helped balance the rich creaminess of the egg salad as well as the...

This place is awesome. They use quality ingredients to make some of the most delicious things you have ever tasted. The atmosphere is very upbeat and welcoming with a focus on customer service. They actually hire people with developmental disabilities and those who are homeless or at risk and teach them solid fundamentals for getting and keeping a good job. I can't say enough good things about this place. Mark, the manager, is awesome and caring, and Martha, the baker, is a step above other bakers and makes some of the most unique and delicious treats. I also have to mention Roxanne who works just about every position in the bakery and is always courteous and efficient. Do yourself a favor and stop into this San Francisco...
