I recently visited Komaaj Mazze Bar and was quite disappointed with the experience, especially considering the high prices. It is nothing like what it used to be. When I talked to the manager about why everything was so expensive, she explained it was due to the special ingredients and preparation methods they use. But honestly, charging between $8.50 and $10 for just a side of rice and having everything else priced sky-high doesn't make sense to me. They've got two places: one for takeout and another for dining in, with different menus and prices for each. It's confusing and feels like they're just finding more ways to charge us extra. The service didn't help either. The waitress was clearly not in the best mood and got pretty upset when I tried to talk about the prices. I did say sorry and spoke to the manager, who was a bit nicer but still came off as talking down to me while explaining the two different locations—even though they're connected and basically the same place. She offered a free appetizer to smooth things over, but that's not really the point. I wasn't looking for a freebie; I wanted a place I could enjoy without feeling overcharged. The manager did mention that other customers have complained about the same thing, but it doesn't seem like they're in a hurry to change anything. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to this place, but after this experience, I won't be going back. I can't recommend it to anyone either. The prices are just too much, and the whole setup with the two locations just adds to the confusion. Plus, if the staff doesn't even seem to care when you bring up these issues, it just feels like they're not interested in providing good service or value. The other take-out location nextdoor (Komaaj Pila Bazaar) has a different and inconvenient schedule and makes it difficult to be able to order from. Also, parking is awful, and the neighborhood is pretty unappealing. The whole combination makes this an average restaurant with prices of an upscale one!

I don't think their target market is the Persian community. If you've had authentic northern Iranian food, this experience doesn't come close. Maybe if you have never tried it, it might be ok. First of all, their menu is very limited with only four main dishes. For starters, we ordered the platter for two. It was okay, nothing out of the ordinary. Even though the host claimed their marinated olive dish (zeitoon parvarde) had been listed as the best for the past five years in SFK, it was below average. For the main course, we ordered the sour chicken stew. I was surprised that this dish didn’t come with rice and you had to order it separately. The turmeric rice wasn't complementary to the dish at all. The chicken was extremely overcooked; it seemed like it might have been a leftover from the previous day, just reheated. We also ordered the smoked trout dish, which was a complete disappointment. The portion was really small (imagine half of a very small trout without tail and head), garnished with lavash bread, salad, and pickles. There was a definite lack of a proper carbohydrate element in this dish. It didn’t go well with either the Sangak bread or the turmeric rice they had as the only other two options on the menu. The service was good, and the staff were friendly. I also liked the interior design of the place. However, overall, the food experience was a disappointment. I won't be back.

We’ve been visiting Komaj from their previous location and we were a big fan. Unfortunately, during our latest visit we noticed that the quality of their dishes have been reduced significantly and it is not as good as it used to be. We ordered all the four appetizers (cucumber salad, eggplant dish, olives, and Sumac Labneh) and beef patty and pomegranate chicken for entree. Sumac Labneh yogurt was very good, but the rest of aptz were mediocre and pricy. Both entrees were good, but it used to be perfect. When we got the check we noticed that they charged for the bread they brought with the appetizers (5 small piece of Sangak bread for $5!!!! ) +21% of gratuity for a group of 6, which I believe it is more than regular 18% for this group size. I gave only 3 stars only because of the food quality. The food used to be perfect, something that was motivating us to come back each time (regardless of the price or getting charged for the bread!!) but unfortunately we were so disappointed during our last visit. P.S. Kudos to Shams beer
