I paid $132 for drinks and all I got was ice..used to be good, but now, avoid at all costs.
Edit: Due to the owners abhorrent response below, I find it necessary to clarify my experience at Last Rites.
This is not my first time here. In fact, I've been here twice before - both times without issue. This time was exceptionally bad, and the response by the owner is perhaps indicative of why Last Rites has started to shoot itself in it's own foot.
The service was incredibly slow - it took about three times as long for me to get my drinks as it took in the past, despite the bar being equally busy. When the drinks arrived (bowls for multiple people I might add, rather than the 8 individual drinks the owner claims in his response), they were disappointingly full of ice. Not just "heavy on the ice" - but rather, so much ice that even the other people I was with and sharing the bowl with thought it was excessive. While the drink was strong, there was so little of it that I felt nothing.
We made the mistake of ordering a second round, but the drinks were equally icy. Again, excessively so, and more than they were the past two times I went to Last Rites. Combined with the line to get in, slow service, and high price tag, I found it a generally poor experience, and even the other people who joined me that night thought we paid an excessive amount for the little drinks we actually got.
Also contrary to the owners response, who would rather attack me than address the issues this bar has come to face, I did leave a tip of around 20% (which, by the way, was reflected on my credit card statement). But like the owners response, which refuses to take constructive criticism, and instead resorts to personal attacks, facts don't seem to concern him. While I was disappointed before, now I'm also confident that Last Rites is gliding off it's former glory. Hopefully that...
Read moreFirst off, Last Rites doesn't give off a tiki-vibe. Yeah, there are skulls and plants but other than that, it didn't feel "tiki." Music sounded like lo-fi hiphop. I was also the only person in the entire bar with a Hawaiian shirt on. Still a cool vibe but not tiki; escapism perhaps.
We sat at the bar ready to order cocktails. We sat some more and some more without even an acknowledgement that we were there, staring at the bartender who didn't bother looking up. After five minutes or so, I finally got her attention by saying "Excuse me, I'd like to order." I seemed to annoy her.
Food, that is, drinks gets 5 stars. Drinks were good. Love the presentation. Excellent drinks actually. Unfortunately I don't remember what I ordered. I think my wife ordered the Emerald Eclipse and the Long Goodbye (her most favorite drink ever, she loved it.)
We ordered a few drinks and wanted to buy some merch. We asked the bartender if we could see one of the shirts. If she wasn't annoyed with me already, she definitely was now. She sighed and visibly looked annoyed. I asked her, "Is that not okay?" She said they were downstairs or something and the less steps she needed to make, the better. Absolutely horrible response. We didn't bother with her anymore and some time later, we asked another server or barback, and she happily went and grabbed what we wanted to see. All with a smile. We ended up buying a shirt, a hoodie, and a Mai Tai glass.
I gave service 3 stars. Should be 2 but that server was nice and earned that one star.
Atmosphere is 2 stars because it was cool but don't expect tiki. If I was rating it as a tiki bar, then it would be a 1 star. Had some cool features but minimal. Actually, I'll add one more star because we loved the bar chairs.
I live across the Bay. Would I go back? Eh,...
Read moreService and attitude of this place as detoriated to one of the worst places in the city. People are reminded they can inky be here for 90 minutes, and waiter comes and tell you that you have a 30 min warning. The drinks ordered itself came in 30 mins late but that was never factored in, and there is no sign if grace in the way waiters speak to you. They have forgetting that people are still paying here, and the attitude is just get the f out in 90 mins. Customers need to stand up for the fact how they are treated is just equally important as just being, and stop caring so much about just one place around here. There are tons of good bars, fun bars, tikibars, and other places in the city. I recommend taking your friends to places where you are not just another customer, and standing up for the horrible service. Also, if you really want to enjoy a San Francisco vibe, this is definitely not the bar. Just ask those who stayed in the city long and love SF, and you'd know. Drinks are fun, but not necessarily the best. You endnuo paying $30-$40 per person with all costs for this kind of service, I think we can all do better. Overpriced, and can be just popular fab with no real charecters or soul. These are exactly the kind of places that have ruined the culture of Dan Francisco. Random lightning effects are only as fun when porple feel they are treated well. For every time I plan, I will make sure to never go back here. And by more customers taking a stand for what is fair to them, the business would know how to treat the people and train...
