Overall a very positive experience! The hotel was clean and the room was nice enough for our 4-night stay. The room did not have a microwave or a mini fridge, which was a bit inconvenient as we couldn't save any leftover food. We also didn't get the room with a queen bed that we had booked and pre-paid for, as there weren't any available, so the hotel staff gave us a room with two twin beds instead. However, they comped the cost of our parking to make up for it, so I was satisfied.
My concern is that we stayed for 4 nights and housekeeping did come to our room at all during our stay. We were told that housekeeping would visit every other day during our stay, but they did not come at all.
Location is excellent. Lots of good restaurants, coffee shops, and bars within walking distance. It's also a short walk to the Fisherman's Wharf area as well as Ghirardelli Square. As a first time visitor to San Francisco, I felt that the area was relatively safe, especially compared to other parts of the city.
The complimentary continental breakfast was a nice addition. It is served from 6:30am-9:30am every day which is rather inconvenient if you're on vacation and you want to sleep in and relax. There is a good selection of fruit, toast, muffins, waffles, cereal, juices, yogurt, milk, coffee, tea, bacon, sausage, and eggs. The breakfast area gets VERY crowded and it can be hard to find a place to sit down, so you may end up carrying your food up to your room like I did. If you want to use the waffle maker, you'll likely be waiting for a bit.
There is an underground parking garage below the hotel where you can park for $30/night. The garage is VERY tight and doesn't have many parking spaces, so I would recommend not keeping a car there if you can avoid it. We kept our rental car in the garage during our entire stay and ended up Ubering everywhere as it was a hassle to drive in and out of the garage.
Staff was very friendly and check-in and check-out. I would definitely stay here again but won't likely bother bringing a...
Read moreThe rooms were clean and nice. The breakfast was good, well stocked and the employee kept it tidied up. The desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. Judging by the amount of people in the breakfast area daily I would assume the hotel was pretty well occupied.
Everything was great EXCEPT… there were 11 floors and two elevators. One elevator was closed for repair for our entire 4 night stay. Signs were posted apologizing for the inconvenience and we were welcome to use the stairs since they disarmed the security alarm on the doors leading to the staircase. I would imagine this would allow anyone off of the street to access all floors causing questions as to the customers security.
This really made for major backups to get up and down the floors. Many times we had to wait for it to come around again due to the fact that it was already full, packed like sardines, probably over the safety occupancy limits.
That was bad enough but then the one functional elevator gave out for several hours. (probably due to the stress of over occupancy) Everyone had to use the stairs or forgo coming and going. I really felt sympathy for people that had to hike the many floors with their luggage upon arrival let alone all of us others to just come and go. My husband and I are ages 75 and 65 respectively.
I really felt terrible for the man who paid a premium to stay on the top 11th floor and had to carry his luggage up all those stairs upon check in. As it was, we paid for a higher price room to be on the 7th floor.
Then today someone had to call 911 for emergency responders to get them out of the once again stuck broken down elevator. How terrifying for them. I hope the next 911 call isn’t for someone having a heart attack climbing all those stairs to get to their room. I do realize things can happen that is out of anyone’s control but I think it was extremely poor planning to not pay whatever overtime it takes to have both functioning elevators for a...
Read moreThe room and services provided by the staff at the Comfort Inn By the Bay exceeded our expectations. The room was clean and spacious enough for the two of us (my husband and me). Internet access / service was excellent and consistent (in room 906) , we had no problems with it. The complimentary breakfast was good and offered a decent variety of choices which included fresh eggs, sausage, waffles, cereals, pastries, muffins, yogurts, hard boiled eggs, juices (orange, apple, and cranberry), coffee, fruit, and milk. I especially appreciate that the breakfast area was well staffed, kept clean, and frequently replenished with food. The staff at this hotel were friendly, courteous, and professional, especially when we needed to have our luggage stored before our room was ready and after we checked out but weren't ready to leave the area. Our family members who live in the Bay area were also very impressed with the Comfort Inn By the Bay and its staff that they decided to book a room for a night. The rates offered were excellent especially when booking and paying for the room in advance. I would highly recommend the Comfort Inn by the Bay, especially if you are looking for a low cost, budget hotel. I would not recommend using the parking garage, however, because it is very small and does not really accommodate large vehicles, especially vans and SUVs. Spaces in the garage are small and vehicles are packed in tightly. We used public transportation and taxi cabs while visiting the area which I also highly recommend because they come frequently and will take you pretty far throughout the Bay area. Our room, by the way, provided a partial view of the city and a partial view of the building next door which was fine by us because we only needed the room for sleeping and bathing. We spent most of our days and evenings outside of the hotel traveling throughout the San Francisco Bay area. For an up charge, you can get a room with a...
