Utterly disappointed in this restaurant. Management clearly spent time and money on their dish artist renderings but what you get is a bowl of slop with no resemblance to the design. Not only does the food not live up to the images, it is an utter culinary disaster.
Two of us came in during lunch time to an empty restaurant. It took the sole store attendant nearly 10 minutes to come out and take our order. The food took just over 10 minutes to prepare.
The bowl of what was supposed to be a Pork Belly Curry Rice Bowl was really a bowl of hot rice flooded with room temp sauce and an overcooked, yet somehow cold, egg. The Tofu Sssm-Jang Rice Bowl was similar. Heat was a major issue with both dishes. The eggs were just under room temperature, having been prepared first, sitting on the counter during our wait. Why weren't they hardboiled? The silken tofu was served cold, straight from the refrigerator, with no time to absorb any flavor from the sauce. Atop our bowls of mush, a pile of crispy fried onions and cold kimchi, again, straight out of the fridge. Plops of toppings on slop. We noticed no garnish, although there should have been pepper, sesame seeds, and sesame oil.
Did I mention that the Pork Belly bowl didn't actually have any pork belly in it? That's right. Apparently, the server forgot to add the key ingredient in the Pork Belly bowl.
My recommendation: save your money or spend it elsewhere. This place severely lacks quality control and apparently there is no pride put into working here. It's a convenient location but with so many incredible Korean restaurants in SF, this is a miss. Atmosphere gets 3/5 because the location is good, the restaurant seemed clean, but the music...
Read moreSimmer & Steamer It's right over by battery st- where I guess there are not many food options as further out. That said we thought this would be a great idea thinking Korean equals a lot of different varieties into a bowl. It couldn't be further from the truth. A small bowl is maybe a fair deal, if quite small and the larger you'd pay the same at places that may or may not give you a better deal. The issue here is that the food is like something out of a prison waiting or something. It's extremely basic. Basically the galbi bowl isn't even real short ribs, it's beef and you get white rice and an egg or something with two to three pieces of jalapenos. We that are my cohort will not unequivocally never revisit this place. I find SF spots always okay not everyone or all establishments but play this hype game. I don't recommend this place one bit. Lines are huge. Also one dish has a hot dog in it?! Looks like out of Costco. This couldn't be further from Korean cuisine...
Read moreClean, affordable, no frills, modern decor eatery serving Korean inspired rice bowls. All their menu items are under $10 which I love to see and hope more restaurants follow. We got their pork belly curry bowl and kimchi fried rice bowl. Flavor and taste was great - just what we were looking for! Sliced jalapeños were free to add. We opted for large size for an extra $2 and thought the larger portion was just right for us. It looked like there was just one person working on the Sat we visited. He might have been the owner actually. In any case, his customer service was above and beyond for this type of establishment. Most places in the financial district were closed weekends, so the fact that this place stayed open for lunch/dinner the entire week, makes it even...
