while it's still on the pallette... 10/10 first of all LOL I had an idea of what I was getting myself into but I left a bit of a surprise. I initially thought it was *coffee* cake in the LITERAL sense, which would've turned me off, but as I've learned with the American language, don't take things literally ahehehe This is a coffee *accompaniment* to be precise. The crunchy topping is of caramelized sugar: airy, light, crispy (crunchy). The light and delicate crumb of the cake is simple and grasps the candy with the whipped cream layers in-between. $6 is perfectly priced. It's just enough to share for 2 if you're not a sweet tooth (but it's honestly not that sweet, it's extremely balanced) but delightfully indulgent for one. You can still move around and dance around the city after this slice, and still want another sweet to close the evening. 10/10, delightful, simple and the best texture balance in a cake slice by far.

So, I found a post on IG talking about how delicious this bakery's desserts are and how they were nominated for a 2023 James Beard award for outstanding bakery. Well, lemme tell ya... well-deserved!!! When we arrived (about 30 minutes from closing time), they only had 2 slices left. They lady began to apologize, and I told her not to worry about it... we'll just take both of whatever that is! See pics - one chocolate roll and the other some sort of "crunch cake" per the IG post I saw. Both were phenomenal!!! Delicate cake with lovely flavors and the perfect amount of sweetness! They are a small Japanese bakery inside of a Japanese grocery store. I'm so happy to know about them and will definitely visit again during my next trip to San Francisco. Just know, I have a small bakery in North Carolina and I'm very particular about dessert! This was ahhh-mazing!

Fluffy vanilla sponge cake sandwich in between layers of whipped cream and covered in coffee honey comb like candy. Simply amazing with a cup of coffee. As someone who doesn’t really reach of desserts, this is high compliments coming from me. Seeing the reviews online I had high expectations and the cake met it! Having the toffee crumble by itself is a little sweet and I did have to stop after eating 1/3, put it in the fridge but I kept thinking about it and always came back to eat another 1/3. I ended up finishing the entire slice! The vanilla sponge is simply amazing, and the cream did not feel cheap or leave a coating on your tongue (which I had worried about). If you are in the area make sure you stop by and get a slice better yet, eat it with a cup of coffee or tea with it would be perfect!

This "secret" bakery is nestled in the back of Super Mira and serves up legendary ("just like Blum's" my parents and other SF old timers say) coffee crunch cake. It's always a good idea to go there early since I have gone after noon and the slices of the cake are sold out. They sometimes let you call and reserve a few slices which you will have to forfeit before a certain time if you don't show. Lemon and chocolate crunch are also available, but I have yet to tear myself away from the original.

Their cake rolls are actually some of my favorites, especially when strawberries are in season. The light fluffy sponge cakes envelopes just sweet strawberry whipped cream with chunks of berries.

The sweet older Japanese couple that have been baking for years will treat you right, but don't expect them to be apologetic if their coffee crunch cake runs out before you can get a...
