Stopped by iJava with friends for an early Sunday brunch. They have a few plant-based options that looked filling so I was excited to try a new breakfast spot. You order at the front and are given a number before finding a table. The ambiance inside is very mellow, cafe style, and there were a few tables outside if you wanted some extra sunshine. I went with their vegan bowl ($12) which contained black beans, tomatoes, sweet potato, corn, and avocado over a bed of greens. Thinking it'd be nice to have a bit more carbs in my bowl, I added a side of potatoes which was a great decision, though the bowl ended up being substantial enough! The bowl was dressed by a chipotle dressing which gave it a bit of a kick. It was a good hearty breakfast at a fair price. Hopefully they'll consider adding some more vegan friendly baked goods because those looked spectacular.

I’ve been to iJava Café a few times now and overall, the food is good. I really enjoy their chicken burrito flavorful and satisfying and their crepes are definitely a highlight on the menu. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and the presentation is nice too. That said, the prices are on the higher side for a casual café, which might not make it an everyday spot for everyone. Also, parking can be a challenge, especially during busy hours it’s definitely something to be prepared for. One small suggestion: it would be more convenient if utensils like spoons were accessible for customers instead of having to request them from behind the kitchen counter. It would help speed things up and make the experience more self-serve friendly.

A couple weeks ago I went in to pick up breakfast and could not believe what I found in my food. As I’m finishing my panini I bite down on a very hard object. As I spit out the food I’m shocked to discover a drill bit in my sandwich. As I immediately contact the restaurant, instead of being met with serious concerns by the staff I receive quirky jokes about the situation. Jim who answered the phone states, “we can get you another panini with no hardware next time.” Complete utter lack of professionalism and respect for their customers. Owner and staff completely unfazed by a very serious situation that could have been a lot worse. Owner cares more about selling his expensive food, than the health and safety of his customers.

About 3 weeks ago, I ordered breakfast online for the following morning and paid for my meal in advance. I received a call later that same day notifying me that my order had been prepared hours ago and so they wanted to know if I was still going to come by to pick it up, but I was really confused because I had scheduled the pickup for tomorrow morning and that’s what it said on my online receipt as well. I could’ve gone to pick up the order that same day even though I scheduled it for the following morning, but they never called me at the time that my order was ready for pickup so there was no way I could’ve known that they had prepared my order an extra day in advance.

Initially the cafe was pretty helpful and apologized for the mishap, letting me know they could remake the order tomorrow morning as was originally planned. I was completely fine with that and cafes are usually super busy so the mishap didn’t bother me too much, but they never called me the next morning and I was very busy so I didn’t have the the time to call the cafe and see what was up. They called me later that day notifying me again that my order was made hours ago and it was unfortunate that I didn’t pick it up because now they had to throw it away again. I had a time allotted for when my order would be ready for pickup, but the cafe never called me that morning and after they messed up the scheduling the day before, I wasn’t even sure if that was still the official time my order would be ready for pickup. I asked for a refund and the manager let me know it would take about 4 to 5 days for me to receive it, but it’s been a little over 2 weeks now and I still haven’t received my refund. I have never actually tried the cafe’s food so I want to give it the benefit of the doubt and give 3 stars, but I honestly didn’t have the best experience with the cafe’s service and am not sure if I will still receive...

We just landed in San Jose on a Friday morning and found iJava via Yelp..party of 13 please..

iJava Service and ambiance: They are located next to a freeway so the parking is limited and the size is a mom & pop cafe. Natural wood colors and pendant lighting gives off an clean Ikea like feel. The staff was awesome as they pushed together multiple tables to seat our party of 13. The kitchen got all our dishes out to us quickly.

iJava Cuisine: All the dishes we ordered were prepped perfectly with very fresh ingredients. I started off with the salmon toast and it was tasty. The bread was on the smaller side so it was a perfect appetizer for me. I went with the short rib burrito and it was delish. They were very generous with the short rib stuffing and the cheese, spices, etc were in perfect proportions for maximum taste. Highly recommended. The salmon panini, breakfast burrito and the chicken salad were sampled and all were on point. Every dish ordered in the group was good or great.

It was completely random that we found iJava right at the beginning of our road trip to Paso Robles but we are glad we did. If you get the chance, definitely swing by for their tasty...
