The station is somewhat good. Not too big yet has a lot of train and bus options both transit buses as well as private buses like Bolt, Mega, CA shuttle. There are friendly rail ambassadors to help answer questions about where to go or by tickets the ticket staff is generally helpful. The three negatives of this place is the long walk ways with no elevators or escalators which is difficult if hauling heavy baggage or have difficulty walking. Also if one is taking ACE there is no good signage off the schedule or how to buy tickets unlike for other trains. One would actually need to get in line to buy them from the counter only again something that is not explained anywhere. The third is new stand the lady had quite an attitude for someone dealing with paying customers thinking that it's law to charge for a sandwitch bag. Though I reminded her that the San Jose bag ordinance 29314 that reusable bags are exempt from the ten cents fee and protective bags ie sandwitch bags or handle less bags for prepared foods are exempt as well. Well a store can charge for them if they desire but not required remember you are serving travelers who are going to travel by train or bus and don't want get themselves or their seats dirty so please put your customers first and not go greedy for ten cents.
In conclusion one tip for visiting this station if you are going to travel by ACE train in the afternoon or on the coast starlight remember track one is beside the building do not go down into the tunnel or you will not find it. I missed a train this way fortunately I got a refund and rebooked on another train headed the...
Read moreIt feels a little weird to be continually asked to write a review about a train station but here goes-- Although Diridon Station dates from the era of "rail palaces", the building is neither lavish nor especially large. However it does have a genuinely distinctive charm and is graced by subtle but striking architectural features. It has always suited me just fine whether I arrive by Caltrain or the Capital Corridor. (And I've ridden the Coast Starlight straight on through going from LA to Oakland. Of course, didn't disembark to fully enjoy the charms of the station but my point is....)
It's more than suitable for a rail depot, and is quietly impressive-- not grandiose or overwhelming.
(And, in a completely disarming but almost certainly rare moment of personal connection, I was offered a bag of freshly popped popcorn by one of the station agents. I was momentarily taken aback but it definitely smelled good so I gratefully accepted and enjoyed the treat.)
One small but significant quibble-- please establish clearer signage for Capital Corridor departure platforms. The predominant signage by almost all of the entrances to the ramps leading from the subterranean hallway to the station's platforms indicate that that platform indicates that that platform is a Caltrain departure. More than once, while minutes ticked down to my Amtrak train's departure, I've wandered up and back the hallway completely bewildered an exasperated. I usually find the Amtrak train only by trial and error, and I'm at an 11 anxiety-wise by the time I find my train and can board. Other than that,...
Read moreDiridon Station in San Jose is a decent transportation hub for commuters and travelers. The station is conveniently located near downtown San Jose and provides access to a variety of public transportation options, including buses, light rail, and Amtrak trains. The station is also served by the Caltrain commuter rail service, which makes it a popular choice for those traveling to San Francisco.
The station itself is clean and well-maintained, with plenty of seating and information displays to help travelers navigate their way. However, there are some areas where improvements could be made. For example, the station could benefit from more food and beverage options, as well as additional restrooms. Additionally, some travelers have noted that the signage could be improved to make it easier to find your way around the station.
Another issue that some have noted is the lack of security and police presence at the station, which can make some travelers feel uncomfortable. This is especially true at night, when the station can be fairly empty.
Overall, Diridon Station is a decent transportation hub with a good range of transportation options. While there are areas for improvement, it provides a solid foundation for commuters and travelers looking to get around the...
