My daughter is currently going to San Jose State University. When dropping her off the other day, I was trying to think of someplace to eat, and she said her classmates had often said they liked a local place called La Victoria Taqueria!
I looked it up on Google and all everyone could talk about was how good the famous “Orange sauce” tastes.
I ordered the grilled chicken super burrito for myself, and the regular veggie burrito (which is essentially a super burrito without meat) fire my wife.
Note: I don’t live in San Jose, so we weren’t able to eat the food until 40 minutes later.
Grilled chicken burrito:
The grilled chicken burrito was excellent! I got mine without salsa, and I chose pinto beans. I did add the orange sauce, which looks like cheese sauce, but it isn’t cheesy at all…and it is spicier than I was expecting. Having never been here, I’m not sure why I thought the sauce would taste like anything in particular 🤔? I did notice that the sauce had subtle garlic notes.
My wife’s veggie burrito.
My wife also loved her veggie burrito, and she said she would definitely eat here again as well! I thought it looked a little lite in the filling department, so you might want to add extra beans or maybe opt for the super veggie if you’re feeling particularly hungry!
Neither burrito was huge per se, but we both split our burritos into 2 meals. We will definitely eat here again!
I’m truly not sure why the google ratings here are not higher! I really loved the food here. It was fresh and I was served quickly.
Notes:
They give you orange sauce on the side if you ask for some. There isn’t a tip option when you pay with credit here. I gave a $3.00 cash tip and the woman working there was very thankful! Please tip the staff here if you can afford it! I am only adding this note because their tip jar was empty. They do good work, so let’s show the workers at La Victoria that we...
Read moreORANGE SAUCE! I'd say enough said, but you deserve a genuine review. Open late, La Vic is about delicious Mexican food done right. After an alcohol fueled birthday celebration for a dear friend, I decided to make the short walk to La Vic for a timeless classic, a bean, cheese, and rice burrito. I always feel like you can judge quality of a Mexican restaurant based on this simple burrito and La Victoria brought IT. The tortilla was nice and warm, soft enough to sink your teeth into without compromising the integrity and spewing burrito guts out the other end. The refried beans were flavorful and cooked to perfection, and the rice was well seasoned and moist. The worst thing is to have crunchy pieces of dried rice, but you won't find that here. My friend ordered carne asada tacos amd they were soooooo good. I highly encourage anyone looking for delectable, juicy carne to give those a shot. Now for the famed orange sauce... the epitome of flavor. It took an already delicious burrito and elevated it to legendary status. I've had the sauce at their Hayward location, and there it's a smoky chipotle flavor, good, but nothing to brag about. The San Jose La Victoria does orange sauce right. I perfect balance of citrusy acid and mild heat from chilies balanced by a fresh, light oniony flavor. It brightens up with every bite. My mouth is watering just typing this 🤤 Honestly, the orange sauce is so good that I kept taking smaller amd smaller bites of my burrito just to add more. If you're in DT San Jose and looking good food, great price, and excellent flavor stop by La Victoria's. They're open late, but don't make it a last resort; it's...
Read moreTaqueria on N. 4th /Julian TERRIBLE. Always screw up my order, depending the cook that night, food is sometimes tasteless and bland, pricey for what ur actually getting. I love enchiladas, and their enchiladas, we're soggy and chicken was like it was fresh out of a pot if boiling water, had no taste and I noticed on a few occasions they treat different stereotypes of people to their discretion. Groups of people very friendly accommodating and offered other alternatives made suggestions of food items not on the menu, where I was just told a price , and brushed aside quickly, and still my order was wrong. Their infamous orange sauce that they offer a sale price for take home bottles, is bland and sometimes to spicy to even taste any flavor. Some people may like that, extra hot taste, I like Chile but I like to taste it. I'm only giving them one star for the sole reason they r located right next door to my son's, and convenient. But was disappointed after every meal if I even finished the meal. I suggest going to the other La Victoria Taquerias in the same neighborhood, 4th/San Carlos BOMB! Food is full of flavor and good atmosphere, also on E Santa Clara St. La Victoria iTaqueria, went there yrs ago , and best bean n cheese burrito in town and they still rate high for their bean n cheese burrito. It's a short walk from the site on 4th/Julian.... and maybe a 2 minute drive, if that. If ordering thru doordash or grub hub make sure u check the location of the one that will be delivering to u. I don't like giving any restaurant negative reviews but everything about this place was a...
