Came here for a late lunch with a friend and I have to say that I actually really enjoyed the food. Got #34 and the flour cake, both of which were really good.
Parking: There’s only metered street parking available ($2 per hour), but be careful not to park in the residential area that requires a permit. Service: Prompt. They were fast to seat us, keeping an eye on us to know when we wanted to place our order and they were very kind when I paid the bill and asked for a to go box. Best Part: The food. Honestly it tasted better than I was expecting. I was expecting a plain broth when I got the #34 order, but man it was packed with flavor! Worst Part: Parking, but luckily I just had to make a couple of rounds. I think normally it’s fine but there were a lot of spots that were marked with a tow away sign. Tips: Bring quarters to pay for the metered parking, but they do accept credit card as payment! Return: Definitely would if I was...
Read moreStill the best noodles in town. I am not a fan of Chinese food, but these noodles have me coming back. The egg noodles have a special crisp that other restaurants that even San Fransisco's China Town cannot replicate, and the white rice noodles are thick and not soggy. Other places that claim to serve "hu tieu" give thin white noodles.
The broth is also simple, and I actually enjoy the lack of veggies in their soups. There are few lettuce pieces and plenty of pork fat blocks in the soup.
I have been to China Chen for a decade, and it is fun to see how the younger generation has taken over the eatery by introducing this place's first appearances of branding. The young waiters now don black tee-shirts with a red logo now.
The only thing that I dislike about this place is their fried chicken--they consistently use old oil, and even when they do use new oil, it is very bland. At A&K Noodles (now closed), their fried chicken had a hint...
Read moreAs a long time customer, i dare say 25 years+...China Chen has cemented itself as one of my top time favorite places to eat at. The signature dishes that I get every single time are the 'Mì Sủi Cảo' & 'Bánh Bột Chiên Trứng'. The noodles here separate themselves from other typical noodle bars because of texture. I love firm noodles and to my delight they serve it here consistently every time. The broth is rich and flavorful which adds a huge compliment to the meal itself...perfect for cold days or maybe a hangover. The fried egg pancake is pure orgasmic. When it comes out of the kitchen the item is piping hot, smells absolutely robust and my god the density of food is amazing. Even for a big boy as myself, these 2 items will have me feeling like I'm on Cloud 9. I highly recommend this place so go give it a shot! What do you have to lose besides missing out on some of the realest, most authentic asian food in...
