As someone who takes pizza seriously, not just as a meal, but as a craft, I must say: Bari Handcrafted Pizza at Calle Del Santo Cristo is a revelation.
Let’s begin with the artistry. The pizza chef at Bari doesn’t just make pizza; he composes it. Each ingredient is placed with intention, balance, and flair. The dough? A masterpiece on its own, perfectly textured, with a flavor that tells you it’s been treated with time, care, and skill. As a catador de pizzas, I could clearly identify and appreciate the individual ingredients, yet they melted into a symphony of flavors that felt both rustic and refined.
I chose the pesto pizza, a recommendation by our server, Melvin. Let me tell you: Ohhh wao! That first bite was an explosion of herbaceous vibrance, creamy depth, and bold authenticity. It wasn’t just delicious, it was transformative. I found myself eating slower, just to savor each bite a little longer.
Now, Melvin deserves his own round of applause. His service was flawless, attentive without being intrusive, intuitive without being overbearing. He read the moment, understood our needs, and created an experience that felt personalized and sincere. Despite it being late at night, and most nearby spots wrapping up for the evening, Melvin and the Bari team delivered hospitality as if it were the golden hour of dinner service. The price? Just under $48 with tip, more than fair, especially when you consider the prime location, the quality of the ingredients, and the outstanding service.
While Bari offers a full Puerto Rican menu, my wife and I followed our pizza cravings, and we’re so glad we did. That night, Bari didn’t just serve us food. They gave us one of the most memorable culinary pizza moment we’ve had in Old San Juan.
Final verdict: If you’re looking for passion on a plate, served with grace and flavor that lingers long after the last bite, go to Bari. Don’t...
Read moreThe last thing my wife and I thought we would eat when visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico was pizza. After all, Puerto Rico offers such a diverse and wonderful range of local and regional fare and we spent our earlier years NY/NJ, where we became pizza-snobs.
Yet, after a long day of sight-seeing one Saturday night in late January, we found ourselves giving Bari's Handcrafted Pizza a try.
The atmosphere is that of a typical Italian Restauarant/Pizza Place, a little loud, but not unpleasantly so. The surrounding volume did not make it hard to hear table conversation.
The service was good, though the Saturday night volume meant that our meals took a bit of time to arrive. Still, it was well worth the wait.
I ordered the Fugazzetta - an Argentinian mozarella-stuffed pizaa topped with onions and parmsan cheese. My wife ordered a special pizza topped with Chorizo from Cantimpalos, Spain.
We are not starngers to pizza with stuffed crust, but Bari's pizza is stuffed from tip to crust and provided wondeful flavor through-and-through. We were very happily surprised at how unique and flavorful our pizza was. We are so glad that we chose to dine at Bari's Handfcrafted Pizza.
I strongly recommend Bari's Pizza and will dine there again when next we...
