San Juan Sip & Paint — Attraction in San Juan

Wow! The only Sip & Paint in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico…what a great time we had! My wife and I came here after walking through Old San Juan a couple days prior and seeing the Grand Opening sign. We booked our session online which was very simple and easy. The family owned shop is very friendly and welcoming. They had everything set up and organized when we arrived. 3 options of adult drinks were readily available. Drinks were served unlimited, tasty and cold with napkins and a straw. Canvas, brushes and all the paint needed was provided. They started by sharing a brief history of their story and how they ended up being the only Paint & Sip in the area Old San Juan currently. The Artist was very talented instructive and patient with us. Her assistant was also very helpful serving us drinks throughout the 2 hour session and assisting with the painting process. My family and I have been here twice now: Once for the candle-making and once for the painting. I will say, we had a lot of fun each time. However, I just want to make anyone who may not have flawless, Puerto Rican Spanish aware that the instructions will not be given in English. I had my Puerto Rican husband with me who was good enough to help me, but if you are a tourist who doesn't have someone fluent in your group to help you, this will not be an easy experience for you. The second time we went, the instructor was aware that I only spoke English and spoke English to me directly, but didn't bother to give the directions in English. I'm a firm believer that a person traveling to PR should try to learn some Spanish and I'm working hard to learn. However, you need to be fluent in PR Spanish to follow what is being said. This is a customer service business (in your most touristy city) and it would be nice to make sure that all your customers feel included. This place is a fantastic option for trying something different and enjoying a peaceful, relaxing time. They offer two activities: painting and making aromatic candles. I opted for the painting session.

No previous experience is needed, and all the necessary materials are provided. They choose an image and guide you through the painting process, teaching various techniques with different brushes, color mixing, and blending.

The price includes one beverage. Based on my experience, I'd recommend avoiding the cocktails. Mine was very unpleasant, almost as if it had been mixed in a shoe… after a marathon. Next time, when I try the candle-making, I'll stick with beer or soft drinks.
