Embark on a beautiful walkway around the base of the historic fort and prepare to be mesmerized by the stunning views and charming atmosphere. We had the pleasure of visiting in the evening, and the sunset views over the water were simply breathtaking. It's no wonder this path is often referred to as the 'catwalk,' as you'll encounter a multitude of feline friends along the way. These well-fed cats add a unique touch to the experience, although in some areas, the smell of cats may be noticeable.
This walk around the fortress walls is an absolute must-do when visiting San Juan. It offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, allowing you to immerse yourself in the serenity and history of the area. The trail leads you to the governor's mansion and the magnificent Castillo San Felipe del Morro, providing a glimpse into the rich heritage of the region.
One of the highlights of the walk is the opportunity to observe numerous iguanas. These fascinating creatures can be spotted throughout the route, adding an element of excitement and natural beauty. The easy walk on pavement, complemented by some trails and gradual elevation gain as you approach the Castillo, ensures that visitors of all fitness levels can enjoy the experience.
The views along the way are nothing short of excellent. You'll be treated to panoramic vistas of the imposing walls and the vast expanse of the ocean. What makes this experience even more remarkable is that it's not overly crowded, allowing you to fully appreciate the surroundings in peace.
It's worth noting that while exploring Old San Juan, taking a walk down into Comunidad La Perla is not recommended, especially at night. It's important to prioritize your safety and stick to the main street and the top portion of the area. By doing so, you can continue enjoying your time without any concerns.
In conclusion, this beautiful walkway around the base of the historic fort is an absolute delight for visitors to Old San Juan. From the stunning sunset views and the presence of well-fed cats to the sightings of iguanas and the rich historical significance, it offers a memorable and immersive experience. Take in the picturesque ocean views, soak up the atmosphere, and delve into the fascinating history of the region. Just remember to prioritize safety and avoid venturing into areas that...
Read moreThis trail is free admission. Has a beautiful view of Cataño Puerto Rico. Lots of stray cats here. And lots of "gallinas de palos" o iguanas. They are harmless, but don't try to touch them or grab them. They will hit you with thier tail. If you are going to do this trail might want to take a couple bottle of water because it's long and it's hot. I prefer going here when sun is going down but some gates closes at 6 pm. There are no restrooms in this trail. This is a great place for ridding a bike. They have a bike rental near the Morro. If you start this trail at the Morro, it will take you to the Puerta de San Juan o the Paseo de la Princesa. Then you could walk back from Old San Juan to the Morro or your parking lot. I recomend this place for a romantic walk if you have a date. Did you like my review? Don't forget...
