We were on our way to find a burger joint when we stumbled across this small restaurant across from La Concha Resort in Condado. We were drawn in by the fact that there was a dumpling restaurant here in San Juan, that they were made to order, and that the place was busy.
The restaurant offers a wide array of food, from their namesake dumplings, to other more typical Chinese fast food dishes, and some Hispanic dishes as well. Many dishes are served with a nod towards the Hispanic.
We ordered three orders of five dumplings each -- one of shrimp and pork with napa cabbage and mushrooms; another of shrimp and pork with Napa cabbage and sweet plantains; and one of just pork with Napa cabbage. All were hand made as we waited, then steamed, pan fried and all were excellent. The dumplings are offered with a variety of fillings, and a choice of two other vegetable add ins. You can get the dumplings steamed, pan fried or deep fried.
The first time we went, the restaurant was busy with folks who worked at the various resorts and hotels in the area. We waited about ten minutes for our food, and it was excellent. The second time we went it was more as an afternoon snack, and the restaurant was empty. This time it took us more than twenty minutes to get ten dumplings, and when we inquired we were given an excuse, despite the fact that others who came after us and who seemed to be regulars were served first. It may also have come down to the person making the dumplings at the time seemed to be slower. Nonetheless, the food was still served hot and tasty.
The restaurant has a bar seating area that seats about four people and maybe four tables aside from that. The decor is bright and somewhat nautical themed. The purveyors speak English that is a little broken but we had no problem ordering as long as we were a little patient. They also speak Chinese dialects, and some Spanish as well. I would recommend this place, with the caveat that the wait times for the food can vary a little and consistency of service can...
Read moreLocated in a very convenient spot close to the beach, I haven't had Chinese in Puerto Rico in ions and heard good things about this joint, so me and Wifey. decided to take a stroll to see what the hubbub was about.
The prices were reasonable considering the area is in the upscale Ashford Ave Condado neighborhood. With the Covid restrictions we had to order from the trilingual polite girl at the window. The dumplings are handmade! You can see home girl making them right in front of you.
The dumplings were some of the best I've had in recent memory however their other food wasn't that appetizing, I had only a few pieces of broccoli and chicken and the rest was all rice...we should have just ordered a bunch of dumplings..
I continually asked for more sauces (thank god cause there was literally one soy sauce packet in the bag) and she handed me three more packets for me and wifey. IMO for the 15 minute wait and for what we paid the only thing that was satisfying was the dumplings. Next time I'll just order the dumplings but if your looking for just good Chinese food then...
Read moreLITERALLY DO NOT COME HERE. GO TO TAYZAN!! The people here are rude as hell and they were rude to my friend who is a tourist and to me a local. We ordered first which was an unpleasant experience because the lady practically raised her voice to my friend because she didn’t know the menu off the top of her head. When we sit down the tables are DIRTY, the lady cleaned everyone else’s tables except ours, other people who came after us got their food first and they got their food brought to their tables , our food was pushed onto the counter and the lady told us to get it. We weren’t rude at all to these people so I don’t understand what the hell was her problem. The only thing I can think of is that we were the only visibly BROWN skinned people. I will NEVER give my business to these disgusting animals ever again. GO TO TAYZAN!!!! OH BY THE WAY THIS IS THE SAME PLACE THAT GOT SHUT DOWN FOR UNSANITARY CONDITIONS A...
