Orozco is the type of restaurant that would come up pretty quickly on any Google search if you’re looking for authentic food in Condado, San Juan. The food is authentic and it is quite delicious.
We came in on a Tuesday afternoon around 5pm and there was a fair amount of patrons. This is our first time in Orozco and didn’t know what to expect. We were a bit skeptical at first because we see that the prices are gravitated more towards tourist, They do seem pretty expensive. But the shrimp empanadas that we got were OUT OF THIS WORLD . You can taste the garlic and fresh shrimp in every bite. The dough wasn’t oily , but perfectly fried. The accompanying sauce and hot sauces at teg table were PHENOMENAL.
Heres the thing though, you only get two empanadas for $15. The water bottles were $3 each and we got 2. $21 before tax and tip. Tax is unavoidable (almost 12% at the time of this review) and we always tip 20%. Thats a total of $28 for 2 empanada and 2 water bottles were. Even though they were delicious , we are not sure if the prices justify the portion.
We wouldn’t mind coming back because the food is great , and we only had a snack here. So open to trying them again.
We would also like to note that the service is pretty standard for the island . A little more laid back and they take their time . We waited at least 10 min before someone came to take our order and another 10 min just for 2 water bottles.
If they can speed up their service, serve larger portions to justify the prices, and maybe change the video of Guy Fieri on a continuous loop across the TVs, this would easily be 5 stars .
Subjective and personal review : 3.8/5 stars , but I’ll let ya...
Read moreWhat a terrible experience!!! My boyfriend and I went here because all of the raving about Guy Fieri's visit. First, the food took 45 min to arrive, staff seemed to be in a robotic mode and made no visual contact with customers.
We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt since the place was packed. However, there was a few instances when the rush settled, and still, they preferred to bunch up around the bar and talk instead of walking around asking people if everything was OK.
The food arrived late, the plantain mofongo with roasted pork was super hard and dry (Guy's "favorite") and the chicken chicharrones were super salty. They also missed some items from the order and the food was kinda of cold.
Guy Fieri just made them a huge favor to convert Orozco Rest in a very busy, OVERRATED TOURIST TRAP. My boyfriend is from Maryland and he visits the island quite often. He loves PRican cuisine. He called Orozco the WORST experience he ever had in a restaurant referring to any restaurant in MD, PR or anywhere he has gone out to eat.
I'm a local and the food quality and taste is way below average, not to mention, overpriced for what you get and the service they offer. If you want to follow the crowd, just go ahead and risk it. But if you want authentic Puerto Rican taste avoid the Orozco trap.
For a real authentic PRican cuisine at great prices head east towards MONFONGO'S in Carolina. About 10 min drive from Condado. The Mofongo is great, their meats are tender. Super fast service and...
Read moreSo we'll start the review by stating today's date 1/28/23. A pleasant evening with rain in the air. The restaurant was fairly empty when we walked in and if was 7pm just to give you a time reference. We began by getting our menus like any other place. There is 4 of us. Our waitress came by and asked us for drinks. 10-15 minutes later she came by for the food order. Which was fairly simple seeing that we didn't order appetizers. Nothing in the order was complicated again just to give it a reference. To shorten the story the manager came by at 8pm and told us "hey there was an issue with printing the order tickets but the food should be out soon". Ok sure no problem we said. The waitress attempted to ease the situation and offered us dessert on the house. The time now is 8:30, we receive a Ceviche which tastes like fish in lemon juice from the bottle. We see multiple tables that came after us with the same amount of people or less recieve their food. Which included appetizers and entrees. So this has me in an uproar. I ask for the manager twice who then states. Sorry this never happens. We tell him we are leaving and he's says fine no worries I apologize. He says we're not going to charge you. Which I say we weren't going to pay for anything because we didn't receive anything besides 4 beers, a cup of water a homemade kool-aid type drink and the gross ceviche which we leave after legitimately 2 bites. He says sorry and we walk out. If you made it this...
