I am a fairly new resident to Old San Juan and COVID hit just after I arrived so I was not able to patron a lot of the local eateries before they shut down. Now that things are opening I want to share the business within the local community and try places I have not yet been able to go. Last night seemed like a perfect time to try Marilyn's. I always pass by in the morning with my local rescue dog, Rico, who is timid, so he is right next to me all of the time. There were only a few people there with many outdoor tables available. I used the automated temperature and hand sanitizer machine and asked if we could sit at one of the tables. The man working at first wanted me to sit at the very end. Having a dog I understand and like sitting away from other guests but as we were walking out he had an interaction with another group of ladies who had a small puppy with a dog carrier. His reaction immediately changed and then he told all of us, including myself and my quite, well behaved dog that that they do not accept dogs. An outdoor restaurant with two taken tables could not seat two different parties because of dogs that were not making any fuss at all? I did not want to pull out my ESA dog ID stating it was illegal to discriminate against my dog in particular as I was more surprised that finally, after months of being closed and having a lot of tables open, this man would turn away the business of dog owners. San Juan, Old San Juan in particular, has been very dog friendly and extremely welcoming of a very obviously timid Sato. Nearly everyone else in the town has been friendly and even helpful, offering water and even treats with smiles and happy attitudes. Out of ALL the restaurants in Old San Juan, the one that has ONLY OUTDOOR seating is the only one to "not accept dogs". Bad business choice, 100% a bad call, I am very happy to take my dog and loyal business to other eateries that accept all residents and their dogs. If you are a dog lover or owner, avoid planning on this place for...
Read moreStopped for a quick bite while visiting Old San Juan. Nice small dive bar with outside seating. Ordered two appetizers veggie nachos and mofongo boats with smoked meat. The nachos arrived after a 20 minute wait. The veggie nachos were good. Ten minutes after the nachos arrived a male employee stated the mofongo dish called for three mofongo boats but they only had 2 could he substitute tostones as a replacement. I agreed. Approximately 20 minutes later the mofongo dish was dropped off. The male server dropped off one set of plastic utensils and no napkins. The two mofongo boats were completely over fried, hard, and un-edible. The smoked meat was tasty and the tostones were just okay. After taking our order the female server only returned when we were finished and we requested the check. We stopped here based on the reviews but the service...
Read moreWe had to wait almost 20 minutes to be attended. After that my friend came over and the waitress told him he had to order because they had reduced space(they were tables and sits empty). I don’t mind that we have to order to be there but I didn’t like that she had to lied to make him order. The attitude was the worst. The food took like 30 minutes to come out and she kept having an attitude. Almost as she was doing us a favor. Then we had to wait like 10 minutes trying to get her attention to give us the check. We had a bar tender right behind us who was not doing anything and he didn’t even bothered to call her or give us the check himself. The food was ehh, but the service was TERRIBLE. Would rather a 100 times go to any of the other restaurants around. They will treat you well and have better food. Never...
