Ruben Café Condado — Restaurant in San Juan

Service was absolutely horrible on may,19 night (2am)from the lady in all black, a young lady in a white hoodie and glasses was absolutely amazing(service great when she took over and just all around work ethic, she was always cleaning, organizing, or dealing w customers, the other was chatting with co workers and on her phone) a third person was serving(he seemed like a manager, little interaction) it was not busy

Took 15mins from when I asked for a bottle of water to receive it (because I was looking at the menu) only when I placed then menu flat did the woman take my app order. After she took it I had to remind her that I asked for water( which is charged for, no problem but if I ordered it give it to me) after which she attempted to take my entree order which I didn’t want early so I waited, she ignored me for the rest of the night(15mins after my appointment when the white hoodie girl asked me for and entree)the wonderful young lady in the white hoodie brought my app and I only dealt with her for the rest of the time

Food was decent for 2 am. I asked white hoodie for food recommendations and got the mofongo con camarones, it was great

Honestly the auto gratuity is crazy for service like this. I would have argued it if it wasn’t for the white hoodie girl( as 2 people took care of me I assume they split tips so I didn’t make a deal of anything because she was great) even tipped over the 20%(which is not noted on the out dated menus)(pernil is apparently only on Friday)

Let white hoodie girl train everyone, I’ll be back in September to leave a (hopefully) better review(only because it’s near a hotel I like) for this trip I’ll go to...

CHECK YOUR CHECK!!!! We had an ok service until we got the check. When it first came it said $54…. I give them the card and I get a notification from the bank saying I got charged $64… Weird.

When he comes back we ask for the check again because when the card came back the receipt wasn’t there anymore, he goes back to get it but says he charged whatever it said there…. Then we noticed we were charged 20% for tip when we were about to leave a tip! Now….. the receipt he asked me to sign had a DIFFERENT total. It suddenly said $57 plus tax! Again the tax? So now it went to $64 PLUS he was expecting a tip!!!

They have signs saying they’ll add 18% gratuity to groups of more than 8 people, we were 2. When the server came back we asked. He played it dumb, was SUPER rude and had a nasty attitude. He said we didn’t have to leave a tip if we didn’t want to…. Really? The receipt says tip is not included but they include it and then bring you the check for you to add a tip.????? Soooooo shady! Funny enough it was the second time today we ate there, wonder if I got robbed earlier too. Never returning again…. And disputing the charges obviously!!!

REVISA EL CHEQUE! Te cobran un 20% de propina sin tu consentimiento y después te traen el cheque para que des más propina. Supuestamente te cobran el 18% si estás en grupo, nosotros estamos 2. El mesero fue extremadamente grosero para responder cuando le preguntamos y con pésima actitud nos dijo q el tip no era obligación…. Claramente no sabía q decir al darse cuenta q notamos que nos había robado. Fue la segunda vez hoy que comimos ahí y ahora me pregunto si también me abran robado ahí....

If I could give zero stars I would. This is not a place for tourists. The waiter we had would not wait on us. Instead, a waitress noticed we had been sitting there for more than an hour(It looked like she was serving customers inside and outside, but still made the time to see if we were set). She asked us if we ordered yet, we said yes but have not received our drinks nor appetizer. She made sure we got our drinks and good. However, the original waiter brought our appetizer to the wrong table, after we said it was ours he said no (even tho it was the appetizer he requested). Afterwards, we waited another hour for the check. We kept asking the waiter when he walked by and he never gave us one. Another waiter was going to, but this waiter had pulled him aside to tell him not to. So we left more than enough cash on the table and left. As we were leaving, the manager ran outside demanding we pay. Not knowing we had already left the money on the table. After he realized we did, he apologized for the rudeness of the original waiter.

During this time, we payed attention to the surrounding customers. They all were served drinks, food and checks in a timely fashion(by the orginal waiter). While we were not.
