I moved from Maryland October 2023 and haven’t made it to Sylvia’s until this last weekend after hearing so many rave reviews. Firstly, the restaurant is immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. The owner greets you upon arrival and the menu is clear and descriptive. The owner took our order and engaged in friendly chit chat. We ordered and my husband requested his churro soft serve while we waited for our pizzas. It seemed after a while they had forgotten, but later realized and were apologetic—we didn’t really mind as we were deep in our conversation. As we picked up our pizzas, the owner again apologized and offered us their in house ranch that his brother makes. Since I’m not from Texas, I’m not a huge fan of ranch but this ranch was incredible and went amazing with the pizza! We also got some cute stickers of their logo. We finished our meal and it was time to eat the churro ice cream. Even though only my husband ordered, I think as an apology they also gave us a free one! We realized later that the owner might’ve thought we were visiting out of town wishing us safe travels as we left. (I mentioned we were from Maryland and weren’t used to summer weather in February haha). To me, this said a lot about the integrity of the restaurant and care that the owner has for his customers. Even though we didn’t mind the forgotten soft serve, he still went out of his way to make up for the mistake and even more I believe because he thought we were visiting and wanted to make our experience memorable. We haven’t been eating out too much lately but Sylvia’s broke the seal and we plan on going back for a casual Valentine’s Day date AND taking my mother-in-law during her visit at the end of February. The pizza was 1000/10. The crust were perfectly charred but soft. The toppings didn’t weight down the crust at all. It was just a perfect pizza experience. Their churro soft serve was perfectly sweet and cinnamony, I feel like when churro ice cream is served, it’s usually poorly executed and is overly sweet with little cinnamon. But this soft serve flavor was balanced. I hope you made it through this entire review! It took ONE visit for Sylvia’s to become one of our favorite restaurants in San Marcos and of...
Read moreI want to start by saying that there are quite literally no words in the English language that can adequately express the lengths in which I love this place.
My roommate and I just ate there for lunch and they had some of the best pizza I've ever had. The place is kind of tucked away in a quiet corner off of the San Marcos square, and it is a pretty small quaint place. But it still holds so much personality in its cozy design, but also down to the hospitality we experienced.
We talked with the man who owned the place and he told us that the three of them (him and the other two chefs in the kitchen) and his wife (who works on the back end of things) are the only people who work there. And you can feel it. This is a place that feels like everyone is on the same page about the same thing, working together to create some of the best homemade food they can.
That's how I'd describe this place; homey, quaint, quiet, and cozy.
The food is phenomenal, you can tell everything is handmade and fresh. And while I wasn't able to tell the chefs in that moment, the pizza crust was fluffy and reminded me of the homemade tortillas that my Mexican grandmother made when I was growing up.
We got a sample of a cinnamon churro ice cream after we finished which was also light and fluffy. Usually pizza leaves me feeling full and bloated and sleepy, but Sylvia's left me feeling satiated and satisfied. (The only thing is that it's so good I wanted more even though I wasn't actually hungry still lol, but I don't think that's really a complaint when you think about it.)
But yeah 1000/10 I cannot recommend this place enough. I will absolutely be raving about it to anyone and EVERYONE I can. It was so good. If there are any reviews that make you want to go try it let it...
Read moreWhen my wife mentioned, Sylvia’s Pizza, I admittedly didn’t want to go because of how picky I am. As we walked in an employee took notice of a shirt I was wearing, and we talked for a brief moment about our shared hobby. After a few pleasantries, I made my order, and the wait was very short.
The restaurant itself was surprisingly stylish and chic with its white walls adorned with beautiful contemporary art and reimagined music albums transformed into comic books.
The food arrived quickly with little time wasted with our necks craned as we admired the art. We initially started with two pizzas because I wasn’t too hungry (wife and daughter), but after the first few bites, I grew ravenous and knew I’d have to order a third pizza before leaving.
Simply put, the food is not only delicious, but necessary in this bland pizza wasteland littered with Papa John’s, Pizza Hut’s & Dominoes Pizza. This pizza makes you feel like you stepped up socially, because this pizza is unique and sophisticated and usually found in travel magazine features. You can immediately tell time and energy went into their ingredients and menu.
Pizza is supposed to be simple and Sylvia Pizza brings the authenticity of a Little Italy, NYC pizzeria right here in Texas coupled with the simplest of ingredients found in stores that I usually don’t shop at.
As we exited, I gave my compliments to the gentleman I spoke to about my shirt. He turned out to be the owner and offered us a free sample of their house made ice cream which was amazing.
Our visit capped off a great day and I was glad...
