The Dairy Queen Blizzard. The staple of fast food frozen desserts, and the reason DQ continues to stick around in the bloated quick-service franchise market. If you're getting something other than a frozen treat, I usually get the Sauced & Tossed Honey BBQ basket and mix honey mustard and ranch (it's solid). The fries are good and crispy. But honestly, you're only coming here for a frozen dessert, and the Choco Brownie Extreme Blizzard is tough to beat.
The employees here are pleasant, so it's not an issue with manners, but I don't think I've ever had what could qualify as a "good" service experience here. During my most recent visit, it took 45 minutes to get our order. We've had a combination of long waits or incorrect food orders historically. Attrition seems high here. The feeling I get is that ownership doesn't put a whole lot of love and attention into this location.
Which leads to what I both like and don't like about the atmosphere of this place. It's a very dated store. It seems like some table or chair is broken and in the corner each time we're here. The A/C wasn't working on our last visit either. But there's also a nostalgia here because it's like warping back to the 80s/90s. With such a push for modern and contemporary, there's something comforting about the old solarium windows and swivel chairs. If this place felt alive, I think it would have an atmosphere worth protecting, but unfortunately, it feels on the verge of death and hanging on by life support and love for Blizzards.
Overall, I keep coming back because it's the closest Dairy Queen and it's tough to beat a Blizzard, but if there was a closer DQ to my house, I'd go to that...
Read moreIf I could I would rate this Dairy Queen restaurant at 1300 East Sandy UT with negative stars. After spending 30.00 and trying to feel like I got the $ worth for the price I paid, I finally had to just throw most of it out. We ordered two smoothies: strawberry / banana and a mango. Both tasted watered down and nothing like the Orange Julius at South Town Mall Sandy UT. The strawberry had no strawberry flavor it only had banana. It tasted as through the orange juice wasn’t even used. The Mango on the other hand did not taste like mango. The meal portion was one chicken sandwich with onion rings and the other meal a chicken basket: chicken strips, French fries and toast. The onion rings were not bad. Our dog did not throw up what he ate. The chicken strips had the worst coating and seemed like they were past the expiration date or like they had freezer burn. The French fries were not done at all. I have never taken a bite of a French fry and it was hard as though I bit into a raw potato. This fry was so raw that I made my hubs try to bite into it. I will never return to this restaurant. Take a lesson from me: if you want to throw away your money, just put your cash into a trash can. This will save you from miles on a vehicle, your time and the hassle of throwing up!
P.S. to Dairy Queen... don’t bother posting how you appreciate the feedback and that this is how you can make the organization better. And certainly don’t waste your time putting “we hope you give us another try”.... clearly there are several poor reviews on this site and it is apparent nothing has changed. May be time for you to close your...
Read moreI’m incredibly frustrated after what happened during my recent visit to the location at 9327 S 1300 E, Sandy, UT 84094. I specifically drove 20 minutes out of my way to get the 85-cent Blizzard using the mobile app promotion. The app clearly says that if there’s no barcode scanner, I can use a five-digit code in the restaurant — but when I tried to do exactly that, the person at the counter flat-out told me, “We don’t do that here.” No explanation, no help — just a refusal. Even after explaining that he could use the 5 digit code, still no help.
To make things worse, I had a Dairy Queen gift card I got for my birthday that I was excited to use. But your app doesn’t allow gift cards for mobile orders, and in-store, they wouldn’t honor the promo. So basically, I had no way to actually place the order — even though I was fully prepared to pay with a valid gift card and follow the promotion’s terms.
The whole thing felt like a waste of time and honestly, like a bait-and-switch. I left without ordering anything because there was no point — and what was supposed to be a fun, simple treat turned into a headache. If your promotions aren’t going to be honored at all locations, or your staff isn’t trained on how they work, then what’s the point of advertising them?
I’d really appreciate someone looking into this. Right now, I’m seriously reconsidering whether it’s even worth...
