Hi everyone. My spouse and I just enjoyed a quite wonderful dining experience. First, a little perspective. As I write this, we are on the tail end of an obligatory trip which has taken us from Phoenix to northern Idaho and back via Salt Lake City en route. At this point we just want to get back home yet after a long drive are ‘road tired’, hungry and just need to find a place to relax to an evening meal. Ever been there?
So....Threva Googles Jim’s Family Restaurant, which happens to be located close to our hotel and off we go. We arrive, walk in and discover a sedate, warm and relaxing family type atmosphere featuring a nice mix of tables and booths, reminiscent of what used to be a more common experience, much unlike the overdone ‘theme pretensive’ or conversely big franchise sterile vibe which is now status quo.
BTW, we both used to live in New Mexico, so are no strangers to New Mexican Southwest offerings. We both ordered what I believe was Jim’s Home Made Chilie Verde breakfast with pancakes. We received our orders really fast and immediately realized we’d need a to go box. Talk about huge portions! Check out the picture. Neither of us can eat like we used to and could easily have gotten full sharing one order alone. Jim’s Family Restaurant is known for big portions for good reason, but moreover the Chilie Verde was stupendous. Every ingredient complemented the other, with just enough spice to bring it all together, the potatoes just the right texture with a touch of edge crispiness here and there, eggs scrambled just right and the cheese - well; pretty dreamy overall. We were really impressed, so much so we shared our impressions with our waitress and asked if she’d ‘compliment the chef’ on our behalf. We also had a cordial conversation with Spencer {the owner/manager} and asked how on earth could he make it work with so much food and such good food at that. Spencer has obviously developed a carefully crafted formula which brings everything together for that ‘just right’ combination of factors resulting in a dining (diner) experience often assured yet rarely actually delivered by others. Well, Jim’s Family Restaurant DOES deliver, and in a BIG way.
I could continue with more gracious commentary, but hopefully I’ve made my point. I’m doing this review still full after a serendipitous experience at ‘Jim’s Family Restaurant. I’m so tired I probably have bags ‘over’ my eyes yet still feel compelled to write this review because I’m really impressed with this establishment. If you’re traveling through Salt Lake City, it’s well worth navigating to Jim’s Family Restaurant or even arranging lodging close by if spending the night. Threva and I just lucked-out, but you can dine with the assurance of two enthusiastic customers who will most definitely find ourselves at Jim’s again if the opportunity presents itself. Just be sure you want an easy to negotiate menu, great staff, very reasonable prices, delicious food and...
Read moreFantastic for Private Events! For our son's wedding we were looking for venues that had private rooms to host a luncheon. Several places were suggested, but when Jim's came up, we all agreed it was worth a closer look. From our very first contact and visit to Jim's in Sandy, we knew we had our place. Their private room is very comfortably arranged with seating for nearly 100 people with rustic decor that fit very well with our son's and his bride's style.
Carson and Wendy, the store managers were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Since our first visit, they recognized us treated us as close friends as we made return trips to organize our seating and decorations, treating more like friends than customers. As we worked the night before the luncheon to setup and decorate, Wendy was there helping us out and even took care of our young 8 year old son by bring out drinks and even offered him some fries.
The luncheon itself could not have gone any better. Based on our experience up to that point, we expecting nothing less than perfect, which it was. Carson and Wendy's staff were efficient and friendly. The food was fantastic, and there was never an empty glass of water or soft drink. Beyond the quality and quantity of food, the value was amazing. We allowed our guest to order anything off the menu - which is HUGE by the way, ranging from breakfast to lunch & dinner - but on average, total cost per guest was under $20. No other restauranter or caterer even came close.
Thanks Carson & Wendy! You just made our...
Read moreI'm very new to the area, only here on business, but this establishment is phenomenal!
Their prices are more than reasonable: I ordered the Jim's Breakfast and was way more than I was expecting for 9.99 before taxes. I ended up taking a lot home because I couldn't finish there. The food was hearty and really reminds me of a family meal, so very much is a family oriented restaurant. The staff was amazing, I did miss some opportunities to interact with them since I had my headphones in one ear the entire time, but every time they saw me even remotely looking like I need help, they were there. Checked up on me every 5 minutes or so to make sure I was doing alright and really made me feel welcome. I was also surprised to know that someone paid for my one meal! I asked the owner and he said "you're all set, one of our regulars decided to pay for your meal." Just a great experience, I ended up leaving a tip for as much as the meal was worth and wished I got a chance to thank those nice people who paid for me.
Overall: 10/10 would recommend to any travelers passing by. I personally hope they don't become a franchise because I want this to be something the world says "when you're near Salt Lake City, go by Jim's for a great fulfilling meal and the best customer service and community around the area!" That's just me though, business is business some times. I will most likely be coming back...
