Nestled snugly in the heart of Sandy, Oregon, Joe's Donuts is more than just a donut shop; it's a beloved institution. Sandy, often referred to as the gateway to Mount Hood, welcomes visitors with open arms, and Joe's Donuts is the sweetest way to start your journey into this charming town.

Stepping into Joe's Donuts is like entering a world of sugary dreams. The delightful scent of freshly baked pastries greets you as you cross the threshold. It's the kind of aroma that instantly puts a smile on your face, even if you've just rolled out of bed.

This cozy, family-owned bakery exudes a warmth and authenticity that's hard to find in this fast-paced world. The staff here feels like old friends, and they'll make you feel like a regular on your very first visit. It's a place where locals gather, sharing stories over cups of coffee and plates piled high with pastries.

Now, let's talk about the pièce de résistance - the Cronut. If you haven't had the pleasure of tasting one before, it's a glorious fusion of a croissant and a donut. Joe's Donuts has mastered this art, creating a pastry that's nothing short of divine.

The original Cronut is a thing of beauty. Its flaky layers and golden-brown exterior hint at the crispy goodness that awaits. Each bite is a symphony of textures, from the delicate crunch to the tender, buttery center. The glaze adds a kiss of sweetness that's pure perfection. It's a treat that's impossible to resist.

But what truly sets Joe's Donuts apart is their creativity. While the classic Cronut is a masterpiece, they don't stop there. The flavors on offer are ever-rotating, keeping you coming back for more. From seasonal delights like pumpkin spice to timeless classics like chocolate and vanilla, there's a Cronut for every mood. And if you're feeling adventurous, try the savory varieties filled with creamy cheese or savory bacon. It's a testament to Joe's culinary prowess.

Don't be fooled; Joe's Donuts isn't just about Cronuts. Their traditional donuts are equally fantastic. Whether you're a fan of the classics like glazed or jelly-filled or prefer the heartiness of cakey donuts, Joe's has you covered. Each one is lovingly crafted by hand, resulting in a texture that's just right - not too fluffy, not too dense, but absolutely satisfying.

One of the hallmarks of Joe's Donuts is their commitment to using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. It's something you can taste in every bite. The freshness and care that go into each pastry elevate the experience, making it all the more delightful. Plus, by supporting local suppliers, Joe's contributes to the community in the sweetest way possible.

The atmosphere at Joe's Donuts is as inviting as the treats themselves. Cozy seating invites you to sit down, relax, and savor your pastries, all while enjoying a view of Sandy's vibrant small-town life outside. And speaking of companions to your pastries, their coffee is top-notch. Whether you prefer a simple black brew or a creamy latte, Joe's has your caffeine fix sorted.

In conclusion, Joe's Donuts in Sandy, Oregon, isn't just a place to grab a quick snack. It's a haven for those who appreciate the artistry of pastry making and the warmth of a close-knit community. So, if you ever find yourself near the gateway to Mount Hood, make sure to stop by Joe's Donuts. It's an adventure in sweetness that you won't...

Joe's has become a traditional stop for skiers over the years. It is lauded as excellent by most people. However, the praise is not really fully deserved. Quality and service has degraded over the decades. The building inside is shabby and not kept very clean. It is cluttered and uninviting. The display cases are old and kind of gross looking, and don't look very well maintained. The shop side is really pretty grimy. I'm afraid to imagine what the back side of the shop looks like. There is an older woman working there who uses gloves, but uses them to handle cash, and touch her face and then to serve the doughnuts in between. Joe's could really benefit from a vigorous cleaning. Some guidelines for sanitary service for its employees, and a refresh on its recipes and glazes. The chocolate glaze is like the potted stuff you can buy at the supermarket. The doughnuts are ok. Nothing spectacular. Sometimes they're heavy with the cooking oil they're prepared in. In all honesty, donut world in Gresham has better doughnuts. They used to have really crispy cake doughnuts but those and the fritters are soggy. All in all, it's not what it's cracked up to be, and skates along on its established name with the folks who make a tradition of stopping there on the way up to...

Update: I tried to eat a Fred Meyer's maple bar and I was incredibly disappointed. Joe's has such a better, stronger flavor and texture! Joe's has officially ruined (for me) the store brand, boxed donuts I used to buy for snacks, I have to have a fresh Joe's Donut!

The donuts are fresh baked EVERY MORNING and the texture of the dough itself is perfectly soft, chewy but not too chewy, it's just enough to enjoy the flavor. The caramel apple donuts are indeed delicious when warmed up, just like the ladies suggested! The employees are personable, friendly and easy to talk to. Unique types and flavors of donuts are available, but they are still traditional shapes, no faces made of icing or donuts shaped like whatever, no gimmicks. They are fast at grabbing the donuts, too! I have not tried the coffee as I am not a coffee drinker, but it's available. Breakfast sides such as breakfast burritos, too! I have no complaints for...

Only four stars because the bacon on my maple bacon bar this morning 8/14/18 was rubbery and very chewy and not in a good way. The pastry and icing parts were perfect and tasted like they were made this morning. Pastry was soft. Haven't been to a mom and pop doughnut shop since I lived in San Diego. Friendly customer service. There is a bathroom here. It's a little hard to see from the road as it's around a corner and I was driving in the dark. There is a parking area and street parking. Lemon donut was melt in your mouth tasty and gone in seconds!

A great doughnut shop in Sandy, conveniently located right off the highway, and a great stop on your way to Mt. Hood. I’ve been frequenting this establishment for years as their doughnuts are absolutely delicious and surprisingly large in size. Additionally, they have a good variety of doughnuts to choose from. They are made fresh and are both fluffy and and flavorful. The prices are at or slightly below average. The coffee decent. Due to their popularity, expect a bit of a wait. A wonderful mom & pop shop that everyone should try.
