BEWARE!!! - UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP 👎👎👎

Prices are up but menu is worse

We went Saturday August 27, 2022 for a party of 8. Specifically we were there to celebrate a birthday. Service was a bit slow in the beginning but we gave them a pass since they looked busy and my party all had past work experience in food/retail jobs.

Our server did not check on us once in the entire time - instead a female busser was kind enough to notice our sodas and drinks were running low.

I asked the waiter which wine he would recommend and he said "uhhhh well I'm not really a wine guy..." It doesn't matter if you like wine, you should still know them if you're a waiter and are asked a question or be able to recommend a person that can better assist in that.

I was astounded that the waiter completely FORGOT ABOUT SUSHI ORDERS FOR 3 PEOPLE IN OUR PARTY OF 8 but they of course remembered to charge the shared plate fees! The whole point of doing a shared plate is because 1 person wants a little hibachi and to also order sushi.

My plate was also taken without being asked if I wanted to take this to go. I had over 1/2 a container of rice left and most of my vegetables. I didn't get my sushi and didn't get my to go bag either....

The real cherry on top is that the server STILL charged a 20% gratuity because we were a party of 8 (he obviously forgot that he forgot to bring us a huge chunk of our order) however I made sure to ask that they remove the gratuity (would have been at least a $60 gratuity based on our bill and it would have been even more had they remembered to place our 6 ORDERS of sushi)!

Under this new ownership I WILL NOT BE COMING BACK EVER AND I WILL MAKE SURE TO SPREAD THE WORD OF THE TERRIBLE SERVICE. THIS IS A PLACE MY FAMILY WOULD COME FOR MOST BIRTHDAYS BUT YOU BETTER BELIEVE WE WON'T BE BACK! I plan on letting everyone know especially since I let the manager (woman in tan blouse) what happened and requested she remove the share plate fees since we would have ordered our own hibachi had we known there would be no sushi! She explained that it's a charge when an entree is shared...I was so annoyed at that point we just left because we didn't want to be late for axe throwing

P.S. - the hibachi chef was cool, the chefs should definitely be getting more in tips than the useless waiter...

My wife and I love hibachi but this restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. They charge extra for the fried rice (which if they didn't cook would make the chefs job way less interesting to watch and just wouldn't be hibachi to me).

The environment is a little cramped and dark. It definitely needs some light bulbs replaced and a new coat of paint.

The soup was good but we werent given a spoon to eat it with which made me feel a little bit awkward. The salad was okay but not as good as other places I have had. Our sushi rolls had way too much rice and were cut very thick so they were tough to eat in one bite, but they were fairly cheap. The fried rice was the best part of the meal. The steak was fairly good. The shrimp was over overcooked. The scallops were overcooked and not very fresh tasting( which reminded me of the old name of this restaurant "something fishy"). On top of it all the hibachi menu is very pricey.

The service was decent. Our sushi menu was given to use with a pen that was shooting ink everywhere. But nothing else really stood out good or bad.

Honestly I only give this place 3 stars because I just love hibachi and it brings back memories of my wife...

We are new to Santa Barbara and wanted to try the local sushi on State street. We actually attempted to call before walking 25 minutes to this location to which they didn’t answer their phones on the two attempts of calling.

This was for my wife’s and best friend’s birthday; and we had a party of ten. When we arrived, they told us they would have to seat us at two tables of five, possibly separated, and that there would be a 15 minute wait. After waiting well past 20 minutes, a seated customer they over served alcohol to vomited on the floor under her table. After 5 minutes of scrambling their workers to address that mess, they walked up to us and tell us they won’t be able to seat us Because, “It will overwhelm their servers.”

We were ready to indulge, pay good money for drinks and food, they made us excessively wait and turned our business down. Absolutely haphazard of the staff and a terrible...

What an amazing experience! We had such a good evening here. We had to wait 20 min because it was so busy. So we decided to have some sushi as a starter and a beer. The sushi was some of the best sushi I've had compared to places I've been all over the world. Good quality fish and big portions. The service was extremely fast. When we moved to our table the waiter we got really did an excellent job with his service. We had to wait a while for our chef and the waiter actually came to apologise and kept us posted on our chef arriving soon. All in all we had a very good time at this restaurant. The staff is friendly, efficient and helpful. We had four different types of fish and everything was cooked perfectly! Well done Hibachi Steak House & Seafood.

My wife and I ate here for the first time recently. We sat at the sushi bar and started with some very satisfying miso soup. We've both had dishwater-miso elsewhere recently, so this was a great start. We then had a couple of "Premium House" rolls for dinner. They were large, I thought they were exceptionally good looking, and we enjoyed both of them. The sushi chef who helped us was great, and seemed quite knowledgeable. There was also a server who took our drink orders and checked in on us at reasonable intervals, but seemed as if she might be a trainee. So all-in-all a good dinner.

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch. I've been to plenty of hibachi restaurants, it's one of my favorite foods. This restaurant in particular was average in my opinion. The restaurant was pretty small and their exhaust vent could have been a bit better. The staff and chefs were nice and attentive but the food was okay. Out of all the hibachi restaurants I've been to, this was the only place that uses garlic powder instead of real garlic. And yes, it does make a difference. The portion were good and prices were okay but I don't think I'd come back and visit this restaurant again.
