My friend was visiting from out of State. It was her last day here, we decided to go to breakfast. The Lilac Patisserie was number 1 on our list. The reviews were good and the "word" around town said it was a treat not to be missed! We got there when they opened. We ordered, were given a number and we sat down to wait. My friend ordered Eggs Benedict, and I had French Toast with a side of Applewood Smoked Bacon. We had coffee with cream. My French Toast came with sweet, tasty strawberries & blueberries. There was real maple syrup served warm. My Toast was Gluten Free which was a big selling point for me. Our coffee came in individual porcelain pour pots and a small glass container of cream. Everything tasted great! The staff was warm and friendly. Everything was served with a smile, and it all looked (and smelled) awesome. The restaurant itself was so pretty and clean. The inside is painted a light lavender color with white touches. The floor had that tile called "Penny Tiles". There are high ceilings and lots of glass. They have lots of delicious-looking cakes, and other baked goods made right on the premises. Be aware though, that not everything on the menu is offered daily. The baked good will fluctuate, as there isn't enough room for all of it. You may want to check out their website for specific cakes and order them ahead of time. We parked in the public lot behind the restaurant on Figueroa. If you are lucky enough to grab street parking, go for it. The restrooms are clean.

I had a lovely Saturday brunch here with my spouse. We had tea (Earl Grey, hot), coffee, a veggie quiche, the french toast, and a fruit tart. First of all, the atmosphere is just right. Cozy tables, mostly for 2, are sprinkled throughout the cafe, with a few spots to sit outside. The decor is minimal and bright and the menus are simple, yet elegant. The food is served on charming white ceramic dishes that stand out nicely on the granite pattern tables. Everything is delicious. The tea is served in a pot, rather than 1 cup at a time, and there are non-dairy options for cream/milk as well. The crusts on the quiche and tarte are perfect. The quiche is savory and flakey with a lovely thick filling. I recommend sharing it for sure, if only to have room for other things as well. The tarte consists of perfectly ripe fruit thinly sliced and arranged in lovely patterns over a light, creamy filling. The crust is a perfect short crust with just the right touch of sweetness to compliment the beautiful fillings. The combination of textures is a perfect balance. Lastly, the French Toast. While a little on the dry side, the flavor is unique and lovely with distinct orange overtones. There is a VERY subtle flavor of cardamom or fennel (we couldn't identify which), a perfect touch for those intense flavors.

This little French style bakery has a nice atmosphere inside and out! It’s filled with all kinds of pastries, cakes, muffins , cookies and I would have loved to try everything there but it wasn’t the day for that! It’s not easy finding an exclusive gluten free bakery at least where I am from, most people don’t even know what gluten free means!! We had a nice experience on the back patio with drip coffee and tea my daughter had the key lime tart and loved it! I had a classic coffee cake that I wish was bigger! The wait staff was helpful and fast! I will definitely be back on my next visit to Santa Barbara!! If you are gluten free definitely stop by but be ready to pay a lot more than a regular bakery with portion sizes varied!! Well worth it in my opinion for the experience and not having to fuss about what I can eat! They also sell wedding cakes and bread that all looked amazing! Also available for sale is their own gluten free flour blend which I thought was amazing! Swing by during your stroll through Santa Barbara warm up with some drip coffee and something sweet I don’t think you will be disappointed!

I don't like giving negative reviews, especially for a place that caters to having an all GF menu (hallelujah ), but my experience here was not what I expected. I ordered a cake here for my son's first birthday. I originally asked if they could make the cake with no decoration on top. They said they could do that for me only to get a call 2 days later explaining that they couldn't. They also told me they could write Happy Birthday on the side, but never informed me that they couldn't before writing it on the top. I had planned on putting a couple of things on top and could no longer do so with the writing there. They said they could scrape it off but it would obviously ruin the top of the cake. All I got from the employee and manager was a "I'm sorry". No replacement cake, no discount, nothing. They ruined my plans for my son's first birthday cake. We continued to have lunch here trying to bypass the situation. We ordered 2 turkey club sandwiches. They were good, but they do not come with any sides other than a half of a strawberry and a slice of orange for $14. During lunch my husband noted they forgot to bring out the tart we ordered. When we informed the manager of this situation he apologized again and said it would be right out. At this point we asked him to just cancel the tart. We decided to just exchange it for a loaf of bread. We just wanted to get out of here. He said, "well you will need to pay the difference". Really? I don't mind paying for great food and service, the food was good and the cake was great, but the service was sub par. Also make sure you look at what you're tipping after you order. For not much service you are suggested to tip 18-25%. I prefer to tip after I eat based off my service...

Celiac Safe Restraint, There are no Gluten's in this Restaurant. And the foods and deserts are all Yummy. My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for about 5 years now. And there is NOT any desert or food that they make that I do not like. It is all Yummy. I wish there were more restaurant's like the Lilac Patisserie that catered to those of us of the Celiac community that cannot eat Glutens for health reasons and it has nothing to do with ones weight. It has to do with being very sick for days after I have consumed a product with Gluten in it. So, I am grateful for the Lilac Patisserie that goes out of it's way to make all it's food Celiac Safe from Glutens. The other thing I really appreciate about this restaurants food's is that the quality and level of these foods are made by a Chief who also has Celiac herself. So, she know what's she's doing and the taste and quality is up there with the best of restaurants. You don't feel like you are missing out on anything. My husband and I were just at Lilac yesterday, celebrating our 41st Wedding Anniversary. We had their wonderful Vegetable Quiche and and Omelet that we split and then we had couple of their wonderful deserts that we shared. The Blueberry Lemon Tart and Vanillia Chocolate Salted Carmel Cake, which we split and shared with each other. Absolutely Yummy!!!!!. A perfect way to celebrate our 41st Wedding Anniversary. So, thank you Lilac Patisserie for making our 41st Wedding Anniversary perfect!!!!!! and Safe to eat. Thank you. . . Thank you. . . Thank you. . .It's so wonderful to eat out and for it to be safe and Yummy!!!!!!!!. My taste bud's are...
