Staff was beyond sweet and accommodating! The entire hotel was clean from top to bottom. The valet and concierge were very helpful and made us feel welcomed from the moment we stepped out of our cars. We brought our two golden retriever puppy’s and they also felt welcomed; one 4 months and one 15 months old.
I would have rated our stay a 5 had it not been for an awful experience with two of the hotel guests. I was saddened and felt unsafe when a couple called me vulgar names in front of the elevator. It was 11pm and I had taken my puppy out to relief himself and was waiting for the elevator by myself keeping my face covered with my shirt as I had forgotten my mask. The couple approached and I said “I’m sorry my puppy woke me up so I don’t have my mask but we’re headed back up to our room”. Once the elevator arrived they felt entitled to use the elevator first. I told them “sorry but we were here first and I really want to get back to my room.” There reply was “*uck you, you *ucking *itch”.
I was shocked. I went back up to my room, got my mask, and went to the front desk to report what had happened. Prior to this incident I did inform the concierge before taking my puppy outside that I had forgotten my mask since I was sleeping and he woke me up to go (we were staying on the 4th floor). Although the concierge was apologetic, they didn’t take any action to make me feel safe. They didn’t follow up with me to let me know that I wouldn’t have to worry about them verbally attacking me again.
I went outside several more times throughout the evening to take my puppy out and each time I had this fear that I would run into that couple again and that they would do something to me. This fear followed me up until we checked out.
I don’t know what the right action would have been from the hotel, but it would have provided me peace of mind if I had received a call that evening that they spoke to those guests and told them that they don’t tolerate that behavior and if it happened again that they would kick them out.
I had never felt unsafe staying at a hotel, and it was unfortunate that my stay at the Kimpton Canary ended that way.
Ending on a positive, the door service and valet were amazing on checkout day. It was an...
Read moreThe last time I stayed her, I was beyond disappointed. This place has gone WAY down hill since I last stayed here. I remember when it was first built and then when I saw the rooftop pool and hot tub and thought wow this is a great place. And in the late aughts, it was amazing. But 10 years later it is a disaster and not remotely worth the price. The location is good, but save your money and stay somewhere less expensive. The service is also good with friendly staff. No complaints from them. BUT, they removed their hot tub. What?! Why on earth?! Santa Barbara isn't that warm! I lived there for a while when I was in college and the fog is insane. I recall once not seeing the sun for a full on week and then when the sun peaked through, I was like yay, sun! My point is, it's not that warm there. This isn't LA or Palm Springs. It can be very very cold. That's the main reason I have to say stay away from this place. But the other reason is just that it's simply too expensive for what it is. It's a basic hotel that has nothing to offer without a hot tub. And the worst part was that our window in our teeny tiny room was completely covered in plastic because of construction so it felt like we were in jail. And there was no discount. And no warning. I booked directly through the hotel and no discount or anything for the miserable conditions of this hotel. I have a soft spot in my heart for this hotel because I watched it be "born", I spend a Christmas with some dear friends, and (TMI) my child was conceived here. But it's not worth it at all. And it sucks because back in the aughts when this was our place, there was no kind of point reward system. We even asked because we stayed here a lot and asked what we could do to get credit for all our stays. They nonchalantly said "nope we don't have anything like that." Okay cool, well what can you do. Now they have that, and I won't stay here ever again. The lack of a hot tub is the main deal breaker, but putting us in a jail cell for $400 a night was...
Read moreMy two friends and I stayed at Kimpton Canary last weekend and had the best time. The service from Edwin at the front desk made our stay extra special. The check in was very smooth and he answered all the questions we had about the area and our stay. He realized I was celebrating my birthday and surprised us with a bottle of champagne and a cheese plate to the room. Later when we approached the desk for dinner reservation ideas, the two new men at concierge were very helpful as well and suggested an Italian spot Toma, which was delicious and we loved! The hotel is in walking distance to all the shops and the Salt Cave, a meditative spot on our to do list. In the morning, we enjoyed the complimentary coffee bar with different syrups, milk options, and even collagen. We enjoyed our coffee on the rooftop deck with an incredible view of SB. There is ample seating, a fireplace and lovely pool. However, if you want to use the pool, I would suggest going in the morning because no one is up there. It's a smaller area so once the lounge chairs fill up, the pool feels less inviting. When we were up there enjoying the lounge chairs (swim ready) no one was actually in the pool despite the perfect weather for it. It's more of a relaxing/quiet pool vibe. The hotel itself has so much charm and beautiful architecture. We never went to the lobby bar for food or drink but it was very inviting as well. The rooms were big, comfy beds and had a huge bathroom. There was also complimentary robes/slippers and a yoga mat. The yoga mat was such a nice surprise because I like to stretch in the morning. The only thing I would say is that I really wanted a balcony we could utilize and the Juliette Balcony was not that. It's so small, it's kind of silly it even exists. One person can barely get out there on it. Other than that, I highly recommend. I would definitely stay here again. Amazing customer service wins every time. Thanks Kimpton and Edwin for the...
