I would give it 0 if I could. This was the first time I’ve ever written a review anywhere. I’ve been going to China Stix since 1999. Every single time I go I always have a problem with the female owner while the male owner is really nice. Please stop giving rewards if you don’t want to actually give it!!!!
Today is 11/19/2024 according to their take out menu, if you spend $55 before tax, China Stix will give you one of these: egg rolls, BBQ pork fried rice or vegetable fried rice. Whenever I tried to claim it in the past, I had to fight for it. I asked for it on the phone and they tried not to give it to me. I went down there and showed them their own printed menu on the front table to claim it. Today I got there and asked how much it was before tax and it was $55 something. I said if it’s not $55 then you don’t need to give it to me. She reluctantly gave it to me but she stole my rewards card. Unbelievable!!!! This was the new low.
China Stix has a rewards card. You get 3% of the subtotal before tax. You can redeem it when it reaches $5. When the female owner helps me, she always cheats on the amount of the subtotal. She never gives out the itemized receipts. She always rounds it down to the closest dollars at best and often times to cut $1-4 off. How much money can you get from doing this? 3% of $4= $0.12. I just laugh at her. All these times she thinks I don’t know how to count and she got me every time. When I redeem the $5, she only puts the new purchase subtotal very low. I’d spend $60 and she only put that I bought $30. This is something that makes her feel good; trying to get back at you somehow.
Today I bought food between $55-$56. I asked for free steamed rice on the phone because I ordered the a la cart and I didn’t know how much the subtotal. Why fought it on the phone? I’ll show her the menu like always. I also did not order much so I thought it would not be $55. BTW, she doesn’t like to give me steamed rice either. So I picked up the food and asked how much the subtotal was. I wanted to get the BBQ fried rice if $55. I told her she could take back the free steamed rice and gave me BBQ pork fried rice instead. She calculated and realized it was over $55. She left helping other guests. She came back and calculated again finally said barely $55. My receipt after tax was $60.24. I gave her my credit card and my rewards card. On my rewards card I accumulated $2.65. I looked at it before giving it to her. She never gave me back my old rewards card and gave me a used card with someone else’s phone number. That new card only has $0.45 on it and then my new rewards from the new $55 purchase. I told her this was not my card. She said she had changed it. But the amount is not right. It’s only $0.45. I wanted to see my old card. They spoke Chinese to each other. Oh no! She wanted to see the old card. Then the female owner said I couldn’t. It’s been destroyed!!! One of these days I’m going to say that I know exactly what you are saying to each other. I can speak Chinese but I never speak Chinese to them. She would stoop this low to cheat for $2.65 just because I claimed BBQ pork fried rice. She had to get something back at me by stealing my rewards card. I was standing in front of her the whole 5 minutes while I was waiting for my free BBQ pork fried rice. The machine for the rewards is against the wall and she faced the wall and I could only see her back. I keep going back for the food. They changed their cook probably about 3 months ago because I can taste the difference. I actually don’t need extra money from rewards. I’m quite fine financially. This is just a matter of principle! JUST STOP HAVING A REWARDS PROGRAM all together if you feel cheated whenever people try to claim the rewards!!!! Such...
Read moreThis used to be a great place to go for Chinese food. I brought my family here for Mother's Day and was disappointed to say the least. The food was bland, with little flavor. We got the chow mein, won ton soup, garlic chicken, Mongolian beef and sweet and sour chicken. The place wasn't too busy at 6 pm, so there is no excuse for the poor service. Not once did our waiter check on us! We were not given ANY water and I was very thirsty, as was my daughter. Once, my waiter was right behind me giving the check to the table next to us and I thought for sure he would ask if everything was ok, but he rushed off before I could even flag him down! He had looked right at me and still not acknowledged our table. Well, $150.00 for dinner plus an undeserved tip later, and we left. I shouldn't have tipped well, but I won't be back for more. There are two new Chinese restaurants in the area and I intend on trying them. Time to move on and find a new place to enjoy. I cannot afford to waste money on bland food and poor service. 0 stars for service! 2...
Read moreProbably my favorite restaurant in San Jose, and I was born here, raised here, and lived here for 21 years. China Stix is a consistently amazing restaurant with massive portions of authentic food. I usually get the combination plate and it’s a huge quantity of food. The family dinners are also amazing value. The honey walnut prawns in particular are absolutely delicious. I also love the sweet and sour chicken, pot stickers, wonton soup and chow mein.
On top of the food, the staff here are all lovely and extremely attentive. They greet us personally like we are family, are super quick with drink refills and are sure to check on us several times during our meal. The service is also very fast. My parents are regulars here and I make sure to come with them at least once whenever I visit the area. My mom was given some cookies today by the manager after I told him that it was her birthday. He made our...
