Men-Bei Ramen — Restaurant in Santa Clara

This is a decent place that offers a variety of stick to your ribs homestyle Japanese dishes including ramen, yakisoba, omu-rice (egg omelet over fried rice), etc.

To state the obvious their prices have gone way up -- reflecting the current state of the economy, understandable. The service remained quick and efficient. We got the yakisoba, the omu-rice and a side of gyoza. They were all reasonably satisfying.

I will have to say that the chefs here are not judicious about their use of MSG here. We all got major headaches after the meal. If you have a high tolerance for this, it should be OK.

My wife and I are regulars here, and while we do love the Ramen, our usual to-go order is a big plate of their yakimeshi, Japanese fried rice, and the karaage, the fried chicken.

The rice is super supple and extremely flavorful, a great example of how it differs from Chinese or Thai style fried rices, but that chicken sings. First it's a massive portion and fried perfectly (just make sure to open the container ASAP when taking to go to make sure the steam is let out, otherwise it might get a little soggy) with each piece super crispy and full of flavor. We got here on a Sunday afternoon. We got here and ordered the Spicy men-bei ramen and the combination with Spicy miso ramen and half fried rice. The rice was amazing really generous portions. Even though we ordered half an order of fried rice, it was big enough to share for 2 people. The service can be improved a bit since it took a while for them to come and get our order.
