The pizza renaissance has come to Santa Clarita. I don't say this lightly. Since I moved up here 4 years ago I've been seriously missing real NYC-style slices (and generally just good pizza) that is a bit more abundant in other parts of L.A. I've done a deep-dive of what we have up here and whereas we have some spots that are generally "good" there just wasn't anything like this...until now.
Slice House serves authentic and EXCELLENT pizza in a variety of styles...conceived by award-winning pizza chef Tony Gemignani, and locally owned and franchised here in Santa Clarite. The star of the show, for me, is the NYC-style slices. They're perfect...the right amount of thin and crispy on the crust...the right amount of sauce and cheese...nostalgically delicious when you order a slice and over the top great when you get a whole pie made fresh for you.
My family also REALLY loves the Sweet Gino grandma-style pie...thicker crispy crust that's really indulgent with a sweet sauce, fresh mozzarella, and a pesto drizzle. I think my wife would marry one of these variations of pizzas if I wasn't around.
The Detroit is pretty spectacular to look at as well...we got a purple potato pie, Detroit style...this one may have been a bit more bready than I wanted...I think I'd try the purple potato again on a thinner crust. (Also I'm a vegetarian so we got that pie without the bacon.
They've got different slice offerings on different days so you're limited to that (for slices) on the particular day you're there...for most folks that's fine...for me the vegetarian it can be limiting...though of course, you can order a full pie any way you want on any day...but that's often more than me or my family can eat. On the other hand, pizza leftovers are a win for everyone for days to come.
The abundant staff knows their product well and are eager to help you make the right choices. (and they're super friendly)
It's definitely pricier than I want it to be which will limit the amount of times we can get it...but I definitely won't regret the expense when we do. (And if you can go there over lunch there's a great, low-priced lunch special.
Being able to get pizza this good anytime I want, finally, after trying so hard with other local SCV shops the last few years, is the pizza renaissance I've so eagerly wanted. Thanks for being here,...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to try Slice House before a movie at the nearby Regal theater. Unfortunately, our first impression wasn’t great. The spacious dining area was covered in trash — nearly every table had leftover plates, cups, or napkins. The trash cans were overflowing, and there were discarded bowls sitting on top of the condiment bar. We commented to each other about how filthy the place looked, and during our entire visit, no one made any effort to clean until we were already about to leave. Eventually, the woman who took our order (and who seemed understandably frazzled) was the only one who did anything about the mess.
On the positive side, the menu is interesting. You can choose from several pizza styles — Detroit, New York, Sicilian, or “Grandma’s Style” — and customize your toppings. They also offer about a dozen different daily specials available by the slice. We ordered a Wise Guy (New York style) and a Little Italy (Detroit style).
The recipes themselves seem solid — both pizzas had good flavor. Unfortunately, they came out lukewarm at best, with the Detroit-style pizza actually cold in the center.
Overall, while the pizza had potential, the lack of cleanliness and attention to basic food quality was disappointing. Sadly, I don’t see myself returning...
