Upon entering the tea room today at 10:40 AM I was pleased to see a pretty and charming environment. I was pleased to get a table even though the other 3 in my group hadn’t yet arrived. The middle aged woman who acknowledged me when I arrived and appeared to be in charge, quickly waived her arm in the general areas/tables I could choose from. She sat me, put some menus on my table and quickly whisked away. I was pleased to get one of the last remaining more charming special tables which had 2 comfy looking chairs and a bench seat for 2 people with a nice trellis of artificial flowers and artificial tree to one side of the table. It was close to 30 minutes later until everyone in our group arrived. We weren’t quite ready to order our tea/food when the same woman came to take our order though we did ask for water. Later, we did place our orders and asked if we could have separate checks and she curtly said “no!” then said “you two can split one!” to two of us sitting next to each other and the same to my two friends across from us. We asked some pointed questions about the tea and food selection as well as some “favorites” and she quickly stated a few. We each ordered the $33/person tea/scone/mini sandwiches/petit fours(?sp) and she hurriedly left our table. I did notice the room was beginning to fill up and was much busier. I was now observing this same woman almost running across the room from table to table and to front counter area. The other 2-3 younger servers seemed to be moving in a more relaxed, and non hurried manner:) Our teas arrived then food shortly thereafter. When the food came, we looked it over and noticed an error on the sandwiches. We we’re having trouble figuring out if all the sandwiches were there and we asked her if she could bring it in the back to kitchen and and replate it correctly she said “no!” We soon realized that all the sandwiches were on the two separate trays but not accurate to each person! We were trying to figure out and asked her to help us sort it out and then she became very rude with comments like “well you can see that this is tuna!” and “you can see that this is turkey!” and pretty much just walked away without any apology! Also, one of my friends had ordered jam(and extra) and it did not arrive with the scones and she had to ask for it! The final straw for me was when I asked for more water and the same woman in charge, just waved her hand in the direction of the front counter I was curtly told to get it myself!! I was appalled! Soon afterwards, I saw one of the other young servers and asked her to get me the water and she brought it to me but did not smile and seemed somewhat troubled by having to bring me the water! Also, at one point one of the people in my group saw the older woman roll her eyes when one of us asked a question! By the end of our experience, all of us agreed that we had never been so rudely treated in a restaurant before and decided we will never come back to this place! Also, we all said we had NEVER done this before, but we talked about it and decided not to leave a tip:( We actually only left one dollar tip for the whole group!!! Sorry for this LONG review but it...
Read moreI have never been treated so rudely by a restaurant.. and the owner no less. When I asked if our full lunch could be put on a 3 tier tower for my 5 year old granddaughters birthday, the owner was our server and literally laughed and scoffed at me, rudely rolled her eyes and said that is only for the tower order separately and then proceeded to tell me that on busy days she can't help me, she doesn't have time. We brought my granddaughter here for her 5th birthday and her dream "tea party" by how rude they are. Gave her a brass gea cup because the others are breakable. Yes... because they are tea cups, and this is supposed to be a tea restaurant. I will not go here again, even though the decor is beautiful, it is not worth the price or the rude treatment.
Reply to response... as a restaurant owner, you should be working to make the experience of your specialty restaurant the best ever. And you should anticipate busy days without appearing bothered because there is a lot to do. If you are concerned with children around tea cups, find pink floral plastic cups so they have the experience they expect. When I spent $65 for lunch for 3, I would think you could spare a special tray to put that on. Your restaurant is clearly supposed to be an experience but it loses that when you refuse to be flexible for your customers who are spending good money.
Honestly, if the tray situation was explained more politely, that may have even been easier to manage around, but scoffing and laughing at a customer because you are busy and clearly cannot be bothered is...
Read moreWe had a good experience at Teagan's Enchanted Tea Room. It's a cute new spot in the increasingly interesting Old Town Newhall Main Street area. We've had afternoon / high tea at places all over Los Angeles (and at a couple of the famous department stores in London) and found that this one generally did a good job of giving everything you'd expect from the experience.
The staff were very friendly and took great care of us.
The food was plentiful and reasonably priced for a full tea service. (Pot of tea, sandwiches, scones and desserts all included.) Everything was gorgeous. The desserts (which we brought home) were delicious. The tea we had was good too. We tend to prefer a straight classic tea flavor (like a Darjeeling which they didn't have) and they do have a few basic flavors, but the bulk of their menu is various blends. So interesting to try but felt heavy on those leaving classic tea flavors a little bit of an afterthought on their menu.)
The scones were okay, but unlike other places where you get clotted cream and jam and lemon curd, you could only pick one of these and had to pay extra to get an additional one, so that was a little bit disappointing...at least compared to just about every other tea experience like this we'd had.
There's a ton on the menu besides tea so if you go with someone, or a group of someones who tea isn't their thing, they'll have plenty to choose from, and as vegetarians we were happy that there were several tea sandwich options for us, as well as items on the rest of the menu.
We'd...
