This review is way after the fact, but I still wanted to take a minute to give Susan's a shout out. I was in search of a couple very specific bottles of Spanish wine, from the Basque region, and had to be certified organic, or at least be the European equivalent of such, and they had to of course be good wine. The reasons why aren't important, but it was a special occasion, and so I reached out to Susan's after some fruitless searching, and within I think an hour or so I received an email back with encouraging news about a few that fit the bill. So, I made the pilgrimage to Santa Fe, and upon arrival, Emma, and another gentleman of the outstanding staff at Susan's, had already set aside a few bottles she thought would work. After a bit of conversation, quick researching of their organic origins, and finding out she had spent some time in the region I was interested in, we settled on a couple bottles. It's a small gesture, but I really, really appreciated the time Emma and the staff took to help me, which considering the amount of time spent was above and beyond for a less than $50 purchase. The wines ended up being delicious and perfect for the occasion. It's really rare when you find an establishment that cares enough about what they do to provide such a next-level experience. Read moreStopped by on the strength of reviews here but was unprepared to be totally blown away by the caliber of the selections. You'd have to go to K and L in San Francisco or one of a handful of elite East Coast shops to find offerings of wine, beer and spirits curated with this much care.
Having been fortunate to spend a lot of time in vineyards and wine shops in Italy and France what a delight to see the amazing selection here of small producers from the Rhone valley and Piedmont, obscure specialties from pioneering importers like Kermit Lynch, great Calvados and Armagnacs from San Francisco's Charles Neal, phenomenal rum and tequila and (last not least) the most carefully-chosen cooler full of Belgian ales and U.S. micros I've ever encountered. This is a store where a connoisseur could drop serious money and feel great about it, yet with service so unpretentious and welcoming that just stopping by for a six pack or good value bottle of wine for dinner is just as...
Read moreI have recently moved to Santa Fe and one of the first things I did was try and find a local wine and liquor store. Santa Fe has a Total Wine, which I am familiar with, and they have a good selection of beer, wine and liquor. However for a more personalized service, I found Susan's Fine Wine and Spirits.
My first venture was to check out Tequila and Mezcal and they were instrumental in helping me understand more about the types of Agave and quality of the product.
More recently I have been expanding into Old World Wines and once again they have been excellent in helping me find wines that I am looking for, whether to drink now or store for a while.
Everyone I have met is friendly and if they cannot answer your question, they will find someone who can. I had a local store from where I moved from and feel I have now found my "new"...
