Boba Joy — Restaurant in Santee

My husband had a company party and I called the night before if there was an option to do catering for 8 people. One of the employees there answered and did her best to answer everything. I ended up getting in touch with the manager (Joyce) and she was extremely helpful. She made sure everything went smoothly. My husband's party was going to be in Encinitas but we live in Santee so Joyce said she could have everything ready in Del Mar where they have another restaurant called Xin Chao Eatery. It was super nice for them to accommodate for us and make things easier so we wouldn't have to stress about the company party. Thank you so much Joyce and Justin for being the best!! I used to regularly get boba tea here. Especially since Hokkaido tea is hard to find. But over the last month this place has gone down hill. Their tea now just tastes like milk, and their customers service is abrasive. There are a number of other reviews echoing this experience. I gave them a last chance the other day, hoping it was just because of a new poorly trained employee. But while I waited for my drinks a young physically disabled customer told them their tea latte tasted like it was just milk. The employee I can only describe as buff Kurt Cobain, and a female employee proceeded to rudely gaslight this child and then snobbishly say “well it is milk”. Not a fan at all and that’s disappointing as I’ve been wanting to try this place since they opened. I got the passion fruit slushi with boba to share with my daughter. When my order was up, the boba was forgotten about. Then when it came up, they chose which boba I’d want for me I guess since it was the golden boba rather than the usual original boba. First time having golden boba and didn’t notice any difference aside from color. But I still wished it was mentioned that’s what I got. The slushi flavor was so strong and tart that it ended up hurting my stomach after just a few sips. As you can see in the pic, the drink is half syrup or whatever they use.
