Kane's donuts are the best donuts on earth. On this, there is no question. In the past few years, the humble donut shop has transformed into a Brand, and there are three locations, as well as the ability to order ahead and ship donuts anywhere. Additional food items like breakfast sandwiches, bakery pizza, special donuts, and fresh bizmarks on the weekend round out the experience.
However, growth has its trade-offs.
Each location does not make their own donuts; only the central bakery on route one makes donuts now, and ships them to Boston and the OG Kane's. So when they're out, they're out. I don't see much of a difference in quality or freshness though, so no complaints about the quality, only the quantity.
Another thing to know is that the Route One location's dining area is not very clean. I would rather eat in my car than among the trash of previous diners.
Finally, Kane's does vegan and gluten free options. A lot of them. If you are allergic to gluten or eat vegan, you are going to really love Kane's. But for everyone else, Kane's makes so many that you may not be able to get a regular donut because they only have vegan and gluten free left (because they make too many compared to demand). I think they need to rebalance their mix here so they don't waste food.
I love Kane's. Always have. I just don't want them to focus so much on trends and social media. Be the time honored donut...
Read moreExcellent. Definitely recommend. 9.5 out of 10. And I give it a 9.5 and not a straight 10 is because the are a little pricey. But them again there items on their menu are no joke.. they mastered the whole donut thing. They remind me of this place in East Boston called Betty Ann's I believe (it may be spelled different).. it's in Bennington st.. and this place was a little hole in the wall that only sold plain ball shaped donut dipped in sugar, and then the same this but will jelly inside and omfg are they amazing.. and I believe they ended up making a lemon filled donut. And then they sold some type of bread, or rolls, idk I forget I only went for thier Jelly donuts. I'd always get 2 and 1/2 dozen. But they were only open from like 7am-11am. Either that or they opened at 6. But some times they would have to close early cause they are sold out of EVERYTHING. They always made a certain amount every day. So some days you'd be lucky to get what you went there to get. And then there was a sickness in the family, and they closed which was supposed to be a month, and that turned into, never opening again. I'm so sad.. someones gotta have that recipe.. but if you go to kane's, the smell you smell when you pull into the parking lot, well that's the same exact smell when ya went...
Read moreThe donuts are amazing but this review is for Ruben, the manager at the Rt 1 location. I had to travel for business today and it happens to also be my son’s 15th birthday. Because my son has celiac disease, options for baked goods is limited, especially when your plane lands at 6:30pm on the big day and gluten free options aren’t known to last long once baked. Unfortunately, living in Southern New Hampshire, delivery via UberEats or GrubHub wasn’t an option But, being a father himself, Ruben kindly offered to deliver them personally after work. This man went above and beyond, first driving home to pick up his kids. You see, his wife needed to get to her job so he brought his kids along for the adventure. In addition, he refused all forms of tipping despite my repeated insistence. He explained that he hopes someone would do the same for his kids if he was in my position and, as the manager, he felt compelled to make it happen. Ruben, you’re an angel, one in a million, an amazing human! I hope you receive back the blessing you bestowed on me and my son 10-fold! Thank you isn’t enough. To those reading this, please leave an extra big tip for Ruben next time you stop in. I...
