Well I finally found time to go check out this hip hop seafood and chicken place that I've driven past a few times in the last couple of months and I was really excited and hoping it was going to be just as good as I thought it would be, but man was I disappointed! The first thing that is a bit troubling about this place is when I ordering at the drive-thru I asked the young lady that was taking my order if the shrimp were local. She responded with "Sir I don't know what you mean". So I asked the same question in a different way. I asked "are the shrimp that y'all sell caught in the rivers and ocean near Savannah or do they come from a farm far far away in a place like China". Still she was very confused and then I asked a third time if she knew where the restaurant got their shrimp from and finally she said "I don't know" which is what you're supposed to say if you don't know. So I ordered the jumbo shrimp, thinking that there's a better chance of it being local or at least wild caught than the regular shrimp on the menu. This is the first time in my life that I could not tell whether the shrimp was wild caught or farm raised because it's so bad! First of all the texture of my fries shrimp is rubbery as if it's undercooked and there is literally zero seasoning in the batter! And I'm getting a sort of bleach taste after eating one shrimp. They look perfectly cooked. They are the perfect color but I guess maybe because they're larger shrimp and their grease is really hot that the batter got cooked way faster than the shrimp. Hip hop seafood and Chicken, I'm so sad that my first experience will probably be my only experience at your restaurant. You can't have a seafood place in coastal Georgia where people know fried shrimp better than almost everyone else in the world. Not only are you not serving local shrimp that is very easy to come by especially this time of year, but you're not even serving wild caught shrimp (or at least that's my guess. I could be wrong, but one thing is for sure they are definitely not local. Local shrimp are God's gift to us for having to put up with all of this heat during the summer.) The price is pretty good. I got seven very large shrimp and perfect fries and for some reason two slices of white bread on the bottom for $12.83. so you see when I open the box and saw the perfectly fried shrimp and the size of this room and my favorite shoestring french fries I was very excited until I've been into one of those god-awful shrimp. Please please please for the love of God invest in some salt and pepper and maybe even a little bit of Old Bay and some cornmeal mix all that up with your flour and you'll have a perfect batter for your shrimp and fish. I ain't mad. I don't want my money back. I just want y'all to improve your batter and learn how to cook a shrimp all the way before you serve it, oh! And find you a local shrimp boat Captain and become his best friend by buying shrimp from him and him only. This is just sad! I am just so sad that I was so excited and it was going to be so good and then it just was bad! Bad bad bad and then they only gave me three tiny little packets of ketchup for my fries and when I ask for cocktail sauce the girl handing me some Ken's cocktail sauce like I'm in a gas station or something. Y'all don't know how to make cocktail sauce!? Man just..... I don't know. I'm just sitting here shaking my head trying to figure out what to do with these shrimp. I guess my cats...
Read moreI have no issues with this place I love their chicken wings the fried livers are amazing. I go here often since they open up and every time I always had a nice experience true enough I tend to order the same thing but it's always good hot and fresh. His with a problem coming at and why I gave them four stars. Lately I noticed that they have started charging for sauce 50 cent. Just understandable for the ones in a cup different things like that but they sell tartar sauce there as well and these are little packets of tartar sauce. And they charge you $0.50 for it. Which is absolutely insane to me. Keep in mind if you get chicken most people want like a ranch dressing hot sauce or something. If you order shrimp or fish you cannot give a person to a three of those little packets and then charge 50 cent after that. And also the lemonade when I used to go it used to come in a white cup a large white cup. Which is okay because I get the strawberry lemonade slushie and it is about $4. So when I went the other day and I ordered this they put it in a smaller cup but they didn't change the price. I don't like to be overcharged for a senseless things especially if someone orders 25 shrimp you know they need dipping sauce. Is like basic common sense but outside of that the food is good it's just the issue with the drinks...
Read moreI was super excited to try this spot as a Chicagoian transplant. I've been looking for good chicken wings and fried fish. I'll start with the drive thru experience not too bad not to long though the car in front of me bailed after they ordered. Anyhow we paid & was told ketchup hot sauce and tarter was in the bag. We ordred the #3 specials 2 wings and catfish fillet large fried mushrooms. We drove back to Pooler ate a few mushrooms in the car. Loved the mushrooms. Food was still just hot enough chicken was ok needed more seasoning other than lemon pepper. My issue is as soon as I saw the "catfish fillet" I knew it was NOT CATFISH! I'm so unsatisfied that anyone would use Sawaii for catfish it is not the same! Please update your menu stop saying its real catfish if it's not & most people can tell. Now that I said it with my chest; the sawaii was finished by my 3yr old grandaughter she loved it. She said it was soft and squishy. It wasn't horrible outside of it wasn't catfish for me and my taste buds. Would I go back, yes would I order catfish, NO. I wonder if the catfish nuggets are REAL catfish maybe...
