I would rate this place as mediocre. The hostess is terrible. My wife and I came in for lunch at 2pm on July 6th. It was 95 degrees outside. There were 5 tables available but the hostess said we had to wait 20 minutes. She said we could wait at the bar, which was crowded and no seats were available, or outside which was oppressively hot. So, we just stood near the hostess stand. A few minutes later a party of 3 came in and she sat them immediately. I asked why we had to wait 20 minutes and they were seated immediately. Her answer was because there were no two-tops available. Are you kidding me? You have several empty tables, the lunch rush is over, you have people who want to spend money and you're essentially turning them away? I asked my wife if she wanted to leave, but because of the heat we decided to stay. Then the hostess said that a two-top was getting their check and it should only be a few more minutes. So, we stayed.

Mitch brought us drinks and Jordan was our waiter. They were both great.

The food was nothing to rave about. I had a roast beef sandwich. The bread was toasted and warm, but the roast beef was cold like it just came out of the refrigerator, so that was weird but not terrible. Jordan offered us iced tea to go, which was great given that it was so hot outside. We left a good tip because it wasn't our waiter's fault that the hostess is clueless.

As we were leaving I noticed that at least 4 of the same tables that were empty when we came in were still empty, so the whole sham about not being able to seat us right away was just an insult. That hostess needs to be re-trained or fired. I would not recommend this place, and I would...

The atmosphere is really nice. I fully understand that as a trendy place in a trendy area of Savannah, the overhead costs are probably quite expensive. Our server was excellent. The food was mediocre at best. We had the crab cake starter and both of us had the open-faced roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and the veg of the day. I had the collards and they hadn't removed the heavy stems (kinda standard thing to do for commercially served collards). The roast beef was very unimpressive and the mashed potatoes were really bad. The "thick sliced bread" that the beef was on ended up being two slices of wonder bread stacked and was not grilled or otherwise made appealing. The crab cake didn't have any crab lump to it and was an over-priced starter. For two people eating a modest meal and sharing one tiny appetizer with a coke and two beers, the $75 bill was way overpriced. I would say if they spent some time training the cook staff to come up with some really good trendy food (or prep techniques anyway) to match their trendy prices and nice atmosphere, they might be able to justify the price. Definitely not an "avoid at all costs" but certainly expect to pay more than you should for something that is really mediocre (other than the great...

I had the most incredible experience at Six Pence today, and it had nothing to do with the food (although that was delicious too! I highly recommend the Corned Beef Reuben!!) What truly impressed me was the kindness and compassion shown by the staff towards a homeless woman who came in to eat.

The host welcomed her with a smile and seated her with the same courtesy they'd give to any paying customer. The staff treated her with dignity and respect, never once making her feel unwelcome or judged. And when the manager made his rounds, he too allowed her to enjoy her meal in peace.

I've unfortunately had experiences at other establishments where homeless individuals were treated with disdain and disrespect. But Six Pence has set a shining example of kindness, empathy, and humanity.

To the staff and management, I commend you for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for ALL patrons, regardless of their background or circumstances. Your compassion and generosity of spirit are a beacon of hope and a reminder that we all deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Five stars isn't enough - I'd give you ten...

Stopped by on a Thursday for an early 5pm dinner before going to a show, greeted and seated right away. The bar had most seats full but dining room was mostly empty. The menu isn't overwhelmingly extensive but offers a good amount of choices, Our food arrived faster than expected. Hubs ordered Grilled Chicken: Chicken breast was dry but collard greens & wild rice were good. I chose the Soup & Half Sandwich combo: French onion soup arrived in a small crock, I'm guessing 6, maybe 8, ounces. Temperature was tepid at best, the surface of the slice of cheese seemed to have been torch-seared but otherwise not melted. The onions were abundant and flavor of soup was average, but good. The half Corned Beef Sandwich was the saddest thing I've ever seen. A single slice of corned beef rolled to look girthy, I assume, on cold, soft white-bread type Rye. $17.95 was twice what the price should've been for this plate. Our server was pleasant & personable. If we come back maybe I'll try a burger, I heard it was good.

The Six Pence Pub was as busy as can be for the holiday week, but still managed to offer a full menu and a short wait time for a table. Service was excellent and meal was served hot and delicious. The smoked salmon appetizer was fresh and beautifully served with capers, diced tomatoes and lightly toasted bread slices. The crab cakes were some of the best I've ever had. So many other places serve crabcakes that are too well done on the outside and too mushy on the inside. The Six Pence Pub's were a nice golden brown on the outside and perfectly cooked and fluffy inside. The decor and atmosphere was welcoming and friendly, decorated modestly for the holidays. They have an excellent beer and wine selection on tap and in the bottle. I chose an Irish red that was slightly bitter and smooth as could be. It may be my new favorite. Overall this is a highly recommended stop while walking around Savannah located a block or so from Chippewa Square.

British pub/restaurant with a telephone booth on the side. It also seems to be a meeting spot for ghost tours, as a guide asked me if I was joining in on the tour (which I wasn’t). My friend and I came around 7:30 and were seated immediately. It’s dark and the tables are close, but there was one bachelorette big party group so you can have big groups there. The food was really tasty and the beef Guinness I ordered was super hefty. The stew soaked quite nicely into the bread, and the bread was perfectly chewy. My friend liked her burger and they give you a ton of chips on the side. Indoor dining is available. Credit cards are accepted. They do serve alcohol. Restrooms are available in the back left hand side. Our waitress was nice. The telephone booth was a fun picture spot, but probably better to go by during the day if you’re planning on having a little photo shoot.
