Every city I visit, I look for either a used bookstore or a small neighborhood bookstore because I love the smell of books. I also do it to expose my kiddos to books as much as possible. While touring Savannah, I came across E. Shavers bookseller and I just fell in love. My kids are animal lovers and my oldest son in particular love cats and they have three resident cats that are just the sweetest. The bookstore has quite the history (look it up) it dates back to the 1800's and was once a home, then an antique store and now with an owner change, a bookstore. Each room has a different feel and different genre of books and a cozy feeling throughout the store. It is a super charming bookstore and a must visit if you are visiting Savannah or a local who just havent come across it yet. There is no parking lot but we have never had issues with street parking across from the hotel. Surrounding the store just minutes away, there are places to eat, enjoy coffee and to sit on a bench and admire the oak trees in one of the squares. Great find and will...
Read moreim a tourist in savannah, georgia. i came here for 1 and a half days. today, we went walking around. after a long time of wanting to go to a bookstore, we were almost done with walking around the city. right before i saw this bookstore, i said "i wish i couldve gone to a bookstore." when i turned around, i saw this one and immediately wanted to go inside. as soon as i stepped in, i saw a new world. such a big variety of books. the staff here is some of the nicest people i've ever met. and i mean that. they were so nice and helpful. i asked maybe about 6 questions and they answered every single one with great answers. they have places to sit. the genres and books are endless. i recommend this 200/10. i feel so alive when im here. i wish i could bring this bookstore over to my hometown and go everyday... one of my new favorite places. i found so many books that i've been looking for. thank you so much for this amazing experience! so cozy and unique. the cats are so adorable and you can pet them. definitely my new favorite place...
Read moreE. Shaver is a wonderful bookstore, I have been going to E. Shaver since I moved to Savannah in 1998. I have found some amazing out of print books on the Sistine Chapel there, I also love their local book section. I am always looking for new books to read on Savannah to increase my knowledge, their selection is amazing.
As for no public restrooms, the Desoto is a hotel located across the street from E. Shaver, they have fully handicap accessible restrooms. I would also like to point out 98% of the small shops in Savannah do not have public restrooms because they are small buildings and restrooms would impede on the square footage of the store. Every hotel in the Historic District offers restroom facilities to give a business a 2 star rating for that is ludicrous. E. Shaver is a wonderful book store, they are a book store not a bathroom stop.
If you are looking for fantastic books, to pet kitties and have a cup of tea this is definitely a must stop when you are...
