We went as a girl scout troop (16 total including girls and adults) and paid not just for the tour but also for their "She's Got Game" experience and friendship membership. Definitely book in advanced, especially if you are a troop.
I usually enjoy walking through historic houses and learning about their history. I was not as impressed with this one as I have been with others. This is mostly the fault of our guide. She was rude and short with us. I understand her wanting to wait until the end of seeing a room to ask questions, but apparently we weren't even able to make statements about how nice some of the paintings looked. She did allow us to ask questions with each room, so we didn't have to wait until the end.
We started in what was originally the basement. This has been completely redone. This is where the troop waited while our leader did paperwork. Only one of the bathrooms was working, which was inconvenient since the tour was over 2 hours without any place to stop and go. We were also told to leave our drinks and food here since we would end here to retrieve them. I expected the girls to watch something during this time, but nothing happened.
We then went and walked through the house room by room, and some rooms need some serious repairs as the floors are becoming uneven and some walls are cracking, which indicates possible foundation issues. The best part of this tour was part of the girl scout experience we paid for when we played a game in the parlor. Then we rushed out when we were in the library.
I had to ask to go back and retrieve the drinks and bags from the basement, since our guide took us straight to the gift shop. So I had to ask to get them and myself and 1 girl was allowed to go get everything for everyone. We then had 15 minutes to shop until we did games in an upper room. This was fun, but the person didn't seem to have much patience with us.
Overall, if you're a girl scout you'll want to go here. It's where everything started since Juliette Gordon Low recruited girls in this house. However, their guides could use some customer service training and the house is starting to need some repairs by someone who knows historical...
Read moreI will be leaving my old review at the bottom for history. First off, thank you Girl Scouts for the addition of a page on your web site that clearly calls out the days you are closed including the 5K day, I have a feeling that this will be a huge help!
We returned on 4/29/2017 and were able to visit the shop and tour the house.
The Gift shop was really great and had just enough stuff so that you can get a reminder of your trip without having a bunch of stuff that you wouldn't be interested in.
The House tour was wonderful and presented a lot of information about the founder of Girl Scouts along with a lot of Savannah history. I was quite surprised at the condition of the house, it was in excellent condition and it is hard to believe that thousands of people visit every year.
All around this was a great historic site, not just for the Girl Scout history, but for the Savannah history as well.
This is my old review, I might have been a bit harsh, but kudos to the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace fro stepping up and making it so that others don't have to suffer my fate.
Get it together Girl Scouts, I was there the day of some 5K road race on a Saturday when they were supposed to be open but nope, they were closed without even a sign or explanation I might add. I am not exaggerating when I say that in the few minuets I was there about thirty people stopped and said "Oh, there not open, too bad I wanted to see this." Among those people was a not too happy looking Girl Scout in uniform.
I will edit this review if I ever get to actually see inside the place. You have a web site, and the ability to make signs you might have wanted to do that...
Read moreFirst off, i loved the people working there, the best and nicest. Also, one of the few 'house' museums in savannah where you are actually not behind a rope. The tour guide was excellent and i loved the connections between the house and Juliettte low. Also loved the elevator since one of us was in a wheelchair. Here are my nitpicking comments...The narration, like other house tours in savannah, i feel go way too deep into details and talk way too fast. Maybe cause im on vacation mode, so half my brain is already off, but if i could suggest a) focus on the person and girl scouts, not so much the siblings or even their parents and grandparents. b) please talk slower, i realize the team is trying to stuff 200 years of history into a small amount of time, but half of what was said i couldnt remember anyway. Remove some of the detail and regale us with the most importang stories of juliette c) i really wanted to hear more about girl scouts presently and in the future, instead it was left all the way to the end in a room full of random items to touch. Girl scouts is a worldwide org, i didnt hear anything about their impact across the world today or in the future. d) no girl scout cookies, i would have bought 10 boxes if they were sold there. e) maybe at beginning of tour we can ask the guests what they want to hear...have them choose: history, the house, the girl scouts or all of above. Overall, great place to visit. Please support this museum and the important, enduring work they do...
