If the rating were based on customer centricity alone, they would receive five stars indeed, however since I have to rate the food I have to give them a two.
I really had high hopes since Savannah is known for good food. I've been to this city a few times and always had great cuisine and after reading a few reviews I was excited to give this place a try. They were extremely busy and maybe the cook was exhausted after a long day... The food lacked seasoning and heat. I had the red curry snapper and the only sauce seemed to spring from the mushy vegetables. I asked for hot and received an insipid dish that my hubby tried to spruce up with some of his Gang Gang sauce(think that's the name it was supposed to be red curry chicken but very yellow and sweet)...It didn't help at all.
My daughter had the pad thai and omg the chicken were pretty big super dry chunks, they used the vermicelli noodles you find in pho instead of the flat noodles and it was super sweet. She chided it was like drinking cough syrup.
My youngest liked her fried dumplings a lot, so when the waiter asked how the food was, she belted out it was delicious. But when she tried the crispy chicken, she didn't like it at all. I'll say that was the most decent thing I tried. It too had a sweet undertone and the sauce it came with was just high fructose syrup. It would have been better to pair with a soy based ginger sauce with fresh garlic and scallion instead of that syrup.
Did I mention any of this to them? ... No, I was tired and hungry and didn't complain at all. I just didn't have the energy after a full day of walking and an hour wait to get in. I read a review that said they thought it was the best food in Savannah, another that they always stop there when in town 👀. I'm a foodie and unless one finds super bland or overly sweet food a delight, I can't imagine how that could ever be.
You know maybe with the whole covid thing, the cooks having to wear masks all day (sadly) and it being stifling(doors opened)... Having to inhale increased levels of CO2 and the heat may have had an effect. Unfortunately, I wouldn't give it a try again to find out if this was...
Read moreWe have eaten here before and it was delicious however tonight was a disaster. We were sat quickly and service was ok, other than that the waitress tried to serve a 15 year old a sake daiquiri 😬 instead of a smoothie. We had some apps- they were ok but not great. We stacked plates and empty app trays at end of table which our waitress tried to give back to us (dirty) she didn’t notice and we had to tell her. (That was just weird) Our food arrived, 2 of the teriyaki dishes were cold, so we sent them back (important to note that we both tried our food before we sent it back) what did they do? They combined our two meals and warmed them up in a pan, split it back into two portions (using same bowls as before) and gave it back to us. I wish I had taken a picture of how it was served to us to share. The fact that food that was eaten was put back in pans that we saw them use for many dishes not just single use (it’s an open kitchen so you can see what’s going on) was horrifying to everyone. Especially since our two separate dishes were combined and then divided again into our bowls! I have never seen this done and felt sick almost immediately. This surly violates every health code known to the industry. Needless to say we left. We tried to give the waitress money (3 times as we left and again on the street when she came outside) we wanted to pay for our drinks but she just wanted to argue with us saying she would make us new food. And that she had to charge us and make a ticket?!?! Made no sense and we ended up leaving and she wouldn’t take the money. Stupid as we offered more than what was owed. It’s sad as our first experience here was amazing and the food was so good!!! Something bad is happening in this kitchen and someone doesn’t understand hygiene and what is and is not acceptable to serve to customers. You can’t serve food that is not hot, especially meat that has gone cold, and you certainly cannot combine two orders, recook, divide and return to customers- do they not understand how viruses and diseases are spread???? Really put a damper on...
Read moreI drove more than 20 minutes to downtown Savannah just for this street food, and I am extremely disappointed about the entire dining experience. I came when the store was just open at 5 PM. All of the waiters they are chatting inside the store, and no one is hosting at the front desk that says “PLEASE WAIT TO BE SEATED”. No one is paying attention to the customer I walked in and it seems that they look very chaotic, 2 people tried to guide me but I didn’t feel I am greeted AT ALL. I just broke their conversation and they acted disturbed. The store is not busy, but I could feel I am kinda ignored. This service at the beginning is already very unpleasant, but for the food there’s more. The fried pork dumplings are crispy on the outside, that’s the only good part of the meal, but the filling tastes way below average. It shrink badly, the flavor is way off. Not Asian approved. The portion and food quality of the entree does are below expectation too. The texture of noodles are floppy, the curry they used tastes like, or worse than the pouched curry sauce you bought at store. What’s more. The vegetables they used are not asian. SUMMER SQUASH, onions, pepper, and bamboo shoot straight from can water with the horrible smell that has not been rinsed out, this is DISGUSTING. They also use a kind of plastic straw that is brittle. I requested straw twice, and both of the straws are cracked, air went through the crack and I CANNOT SIP WATER FROM THE STRAW. The waiter also asked me HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR MEAL when my entree is JUST PUT IN FRONT OF ME, and I haven’t even give it a bite. EVERYTHING, literally EVERYTHING I experienced is HORRIBLE, and I would NEVER EVER go to this...
